Probably one wire Loosen up or a wire from one heating element have cut off and is contacting the metal body of the toaster. You need a good visual insect of your toaster, you may use a flush light to see inside the electriacl elents and also open the bottom base to insect the wire conections to the heating element.
I beleive one or more heating elements is the problem and you need to replace them.
Good Luck

Toaster: Dualit Domus DLT44... First one side now the other.. Dead!

Question edited for clarity, added full stops as Fixya removes formatting and line breaks.
Question moved from Cars and Trucks to correct make category.

The latching is normally dependent on the element working. If you have a multimeter, test continuity of the elements. replacing them is normally not easy as domestic toaster use crimped wires direct to the elements cassette. I have a brand new one in my garage for a Black and Decker toaster with 18 crimp wire tails.

I used Dualit and Rowlett commercial toasters at my hotel in Cornwall, England, and they were easy to repair, but Domestic toasters are really a non repairable / replacement option. Ask Dualit what they think?

My toaster only toasts one side - is it the rocker switch or can 2 elements blow at the same time

they can blow at the same time
turn the toaster on without toast and see if both elements light up
if not consider a new toaster as the element and repair costs will exceed a new unit

Have cleaned dualit toaster now keeps blowing fuse

I would recommend taking this in to an appliance repair shop as this should be easy for an appliance engineer to repair.

As soon as I pushed the slider down with the bread there was a loud bang/flash and which resulted in the fuse blowing.Havent tried it again

The siptoms you describe is logical and it happent when the wire of the heating element have been brake and since this have live electric power when it touched the metal body of the toaster then you have spaking and automaticaly burning the fuse. So fir you can use this link to find out which element is broken , the you can buy a new one from ebay which they are in good price and replace it as per istructions they will send with element and also using the above link.

    Timer

Unplug toaster and lay toaster on its back. Gently pry the timer knob up and off the front of the toaster and spray the shaft several times with WD-40. Replace the timer knob and manually operate the timer repeatedly, thereby working the WD-40 down the timer shaft. Test the timer to see if it now operates freely. If not, repeat the above steps. Set toaster upright and plug in. This worked for me. If it doesn't work on your toaster, then have it repaired professionally.
