How do I enable another person in my home with a laptop access my wireless connection --I have forgotten my password--

on your browser. got 192.168.1.1
username = admin
password = password
then enable Broadcast SSID. This is the name of your wireless connection. You can name it anything.
You can also put WEP password to prevent others to connect to it.
tell your son to scan for network access again, then chose the name of the wireless connection you chose with the password.

First make sure your wireless network driver installed on laptop. You can check it in network property.For that press windows key +R key so you can see wireless local are connection icon if it is installed then right click on it and enable if it is disable then again right clicck then click on connect then if in your belkin router wireless enable then you can see your router network there.Then connect it. But if your wifi network icon is not there then you need to install it's driver also make sure on your laptop wifi switch is on you can turn on it with FN key + F5 key too. you will be havin a wep or wpa security for wireless connection..type in that correctly..if u had forgotten it then connect ur laptop hardwire to ur router and configure router setting...type in 192.168.1.1 in ur browser address bar..ur router page will open..generally, by default password for router page will be "admin" or "password".. username will be "admin"...if u hav any issues then get back to me..

That is the correct access IP address to acces the router properties.

If its a forgotten password you will need to "reset" the router to default by straightening out a paper clip and insert it into the rear of the router till it reboots.

BEWARE this will wipe username and password for the internet and security key. If you dont know your U/N and P/W then call the ISP to reset it.

To enable the above access the router by using the above IP address and re-insert U/N and P/W.

Access security options in the router menu and follow instructions to recreate security password.

If you have forgotten your wireless security password then you need to add new password because it is saved in * and # format so you need to add new code.
You need to configure your router.

u can find your computer mac adreses with command prompt.
type "ipconfig /all" in command prompt.
then u get alL ADRSES physical adrses is your mac addreses.

how many wireless computers do you have?
is it a dekstop or laptop?
if desktop have you installed a wireless adapter? if laptop, is it using a built-in wireless adapter, have you enabled the wireless adapter or have you installed a wireless adapter?

please make sure first that the wireless adapters are installed properly or enabled on your computers, if everythings OK.

access the setup page of your router and change the wireless settings of it.

how to access the ui
- open the internet explorer
- on the address bar type in 192.168.1.1 hit enter
- enter admin under password, leave it empty for the username and click ok
- click the wireless tab
- set the wireless mode to mix, change the wireless network name or ssid with any preferred name you want to use, make sure to enabled the ssid broadcast and then click save settings.
- after that, under wireless tab, there are sub tabs, click wireless security
- set wireless security to WPA-PERSONAL, and under passphrase, enter your desired password for wireless connection, take note of it and please be reminded that its case sensitive.
- click save settings.

for your wireless computers, if adapters enabled and working fine, on the system tray you should have an icon for the wireless connection, doubles click on it and it will pop for the wireless connection window wherein you can see the name that you set on your router, all you have to do is select the name click on connect and it should ask you enter a password, enter the passphrase you set on the router and click connect. then check if you can go online, if yes do the same thing with other computers.

on connecting your laptop wirelessly, it is best if you set the router to have wireless security first.

accessing the router's setup page:

open IE, then type http://192.168.1.1 on your address bar, it will ask you for a username and password, thats both admin (these steps will depend if you have changed the settings on the router)

once opened, go to the wireless tab, change your Wireless Network Name (SSID) to something esle instead of Linskys, like your name perhaps. then set the channel to 11ghz and hit save settings.

now look for a Wireless Security SUBTAB, enable to wireless security, under security mode select WPA-Personal (PSK) set your algorithm to TKIP and make up a password on the blank space that says Passphrase / Pre Shared Key , that will be you wireless security code. now hit save settings.

in connecting your wireless laptop, make sure the wireless adapter on the device is enabled and it will automatically locate the wireless network and wil ask you for the security code, once you place it, you will get connection.
