Lost password hello i got an ibm thinkpad t21 but there a admin password so i cant download anything or do any thing on my laptop what do i do

Theres like three different kinds of passwords on these laptops i believe.. do you see a lock on a black screen? if you do, thats a bios password. itd be kinda difficult to remove it, you need to create a password reader.. then delete it using another computer.. either that or unsolder the correct chip and resolder another one, you can find these on ebay.. i dont recommend u to do it if youre unexperienced with hardware.. check out this link

the T21 has PCMCIA slot , you need a WiFi card (PCMCIA) : i dont believe it has built in or isntalled WiFi card.

You have a Power on Password. The correct password has to be entered before the laptop will bootup. The password is set to prevent unauthorized access to the laptop.
Did you purchase this laptop from someone? If so get the password from them. There is no backdoor password and the password is stored on an EEPROM chip so removing the BIOS battery will not reset the BIOS and remove the password.

Cant find the colon on a IBM thinkpad
filmmakernz -

There should be a colon on any standard keyboard, to the right of the "L" key.

If you still can't find it, hold down the ALT key, then type "0", "5", "8", then release the ALT key. This should put a colon wherever you are, even in a DOS command line.

Hello,

On the Thinkpad's, it's a fairly easy process to reset the passwords. Try the following steps and you should be able to access the computer...

1. Power off the lpatop.
2. Flip the laptop over and open the Memory cover. It should have the diagram of a Dimm on it.
3. Short-circuit the two password pads or put a jumper on the contacts to short the circuit.
4. Remove the jumper, or whatever you used to short the password pads and put the cover back on the bottom of the laptop.
5. Power on the laptop and you should be fine.

then for bios password try to remove the cmos battry for while then put it back for some systems the password may not go off. in that case, the password is stored in a chip the 24co2 ic which i can not locate the actual position. thank u

Laptop is locked out
This works great
Forgotten Power-on password
If the Power-on password is forgotten
and the Supervisor password is known,
simply go into the ThinkPad BIOS setup
utility and reset the Power-on password,
otherwise try the following:
Turn off the computer.
Remove the battery pack.
Remove the backup battery. This is
located under the battery.
Turn on the computer and wait until the
POST ends. After the POST ends, the
password prompt does not appear. The POP
has been removed.
Reinstall the backup battery and the
battery pack.
Note: Some ThinkPad systems have the
ability to reset the Power-on passwords
in the ThinkPad BIOS setup utility if a
Supervisor password has been set.
