My aunt gave me the sega genesis for my twin boys the picture is fine but i cant get any sound out of it. i wonder if it is the console or the wires i do have to jiggle it to get the picture.

Taking your problem in a whole new direction, why don't you try purchasing an 8 or 9-pin (depending on the type of Genesis you have) DIN RCA cable. This will improve picture and sound, and you won't have to worry about malfunctioning RF converters. Your problem sounds like the RF adapters are inadequate.
If the screen changes (From snow to black or something) when the console is turned on it sound like the console is partially working. Try cleaning the Cardridge pins que tip and some sort of cleaning fluid.
Once this is done insert and eject the cartridge several times then repeat the cleaning process on the cartridge. Hope this helps.
