THIS CAR USES WHAT IS CALLED AN INTERFERENCE ENGINE, THIS MEANS IF THE BElT BROKE WHILE DRIVING YOU HAVE BENT THE INTAKE AND EXHAUST VALVES, VERY REARELY THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN SO PUT A NEW BLET ON AND CHECK THE COMPRESSION, IF U HAVE NO COMPRESSION OR LOW YOU WILL NEED TO HAVE THE CYLINDER HEAD REMOVED AND THE VALVES REPLACED, U MAY ALSO HAVE BROKEN A PISTON CROWN AS WELL, THE NORMAL CHANGE INTERVAL FIOR THE TIMING BLET IS 120,000 MILES, SO IF IT BROKE BEFORE THAT CONTACT CHRYSLER THEY MAY PROVIDE SOME ASSISTANCE WITH THE REPAIR COST.

Timming belt broke from water pump broke while driving car put new water pump on n timming belt but car doesnt start right plus shakes doesnt sound right 2001 neon dodge

Sounds like timing belt not on correctly. Check timing marks are aligned correctly when installing timing belt. This vehicle should have 2-3 marks to be aligned when installing belt.marks should be on cam gear/ crankshaft gear and intermediate shaft if engine is equipped with it.

My alternator bolt broke that hold it to the engine what do i do

remove the alternator and if there is enough of the bolt take a pair of vise grips lock them down tight and remove bolt, if it is a clean break you have a few options:

1) get a set of easy outs, drill a hole and use an easy out to exact broken bolt

2) get an oversize self tapping bolt (a size bigger then the bolt that broke off, drill the bolt out completely and then tap the new bolt

Good Luck Tim

We have replaced timming belt but cant get it to start

Double check and make sure you are set to #1 TDC then verify you have the timing marks aligned correctly. This happens a lot when the timing marks slip and the vehicle is 90 to 100 degrees out of time. If it were 180 degrees out it would start but run very rough. If you replaced the timing belt because it broke while the engine was running do a compression check or connect a small compressor to a line you can screw into the the spark plug holes and see if you have any compression or in 2 or more cylinders have no compression. If this test is true your valves are bent and you will have to have the head rebuilt.

NEED MORE INFO ON ENGINE 4 CYL OR 6 CYL
ALSO IF YOU JUST REPLACED THE HEAD ASSEMBLY MEANS YOU BENT THE VALVES WHEN THE BELT BROKE. TIMMING MARKS ARE DIFFERANT ON MANY MAKES PURCHASE A CHILTON MANUAL FOR THE YEAR AND MAKE OF YOUR CAR THESE MANUALS ARE GREAT AND TAKE THE GUESS WORK OUT OF THE TIMMIMG MARK ISSUE

My 2002 PT Cruiser died on the side of the road yesterday. The car has 95,000 miles and I beleive the serpentine belt broke. Had the car towed to the dealership and before the service adviser had someone...

The reason the service writers always recommend that the water pump be changed along with the timing belt and cam and crank seals, is that they are all located together, and it takes a long time (which you pay for) to take everything off to get to the area, so you may as well replace the other things which will go out soon with that high of a mileage anyway. Altogether, it runs between $500-$700, but it should last you another 100,000 miles. Your serpentine belt should cost about $130 parts and labor. If you are in doubt or the dealership has a bad reputation, have it towed somewhere else. Any time you have doubts, cal the BBB in your area and ask questions.

93` 850 volvo. no timming marks

If your timing belt belt broke, you have damaged the valves and the cylinder head will need to be removed and rebuilt, or replaced.
