Skybox not cooling

Is it possible to add coils on the rear of the unit to help aid in the cooling process ??

  • essence702 Feb 15, 2008

My Maytag Skybox stopped cooling too. Anyone know where to get repair. I really liked this product while it was working. It was so convenient and was ideal for saving soda storage/dispenser space. Maytag no longer offer service or repair suggestions. Can it be that the unit just needs freon? I hate to junk it, any suggestions?

  • boarguello Feb 22, 2008

Okay my name is Bo and I live in Conroe, Texas and I too have a Maytag Skybox and it stopped cooling last August, 2007. Everything else worked but didnt cool. I called every vending repair company in Houston, Conroe area and no one would even attempt to come look at it. Or I would hear Maytag stopped fixing it.

We finally called an appliance repair and the only thing wrong with the cooling part was that the "relay" went bad and thats why it wasnt cooling.

So for all you people who own Maytag Skybox and it stopped cooling your drinks, any appliance repair can look at the machine and more than likely its the "relay" switch.

Hope this help...an comments you can email me at [email protected].

    Good luck

You can not add coils but place a fan on it to help remove the heat faster by lowering the condenser temps

How to clean sunbeam window air conditioner 5000 BTU

To ensure you are achieving absolute BEST energy efficiency, I would strongly encourage you to take the following steps:
1. Unplug your unit, disconnecting the electrical service from the unit.
2. Remove the filters from the front of the unit.
3. In a typical quart spray bottle, add 4 packets of UNSWEETENED Lemon KOOL-AID, fill 1/2 full with water, screw top onto bottle, shake well for 30 seconds, remove top and add water to near the top, screw top onto bottle and shake again to mix it very well.
4. Spray the INDOOR COILS with the above KOOL-AID solution until all of the solution has been used. The CITRUS Acid in the KOOL-AID will penetrate the coils and not only remove unwanted dirt, dust and debris; but it will also clean the bi-metal portions of that coil, making it SHINE.
5. Let the KOOL-AID set on those coils for a MINIMUM of 30 minutes.
6. While the KOOL-AID is doing its job, take the filters that were removed and rinse them under a faucet, ensuring the water is flowing from the back to the front of the filters in order to dislodge and remove as much debris as possible. It is acceptable to now spray the filters with either a solution of 50% water and 50% hydrogen peroxide OR simply spray with any household disinfectant/cleaner such as Lysol or Mr. Clean or similar product. Bump the filters against your hand to remove any additional water or household spray.
7. After at least 30 minutes, take that same spray bottle and fill it with clear water. Spray those coils once more with clear water to flush what ever may have been left within those tiny coils.
8. Add 1 drop of light weight oil to the fan motor and bearing.
9. Re-install the front cover of the unit; and then reinstall the filters.
10. Plug into an electrical outlet.
11. Turn the unit to the COOLING Mode and HI Speed Fan Mode.
Enjoy continued usage of your A/C unit.
This should be performed at least once each year in order achieve the highest EFFICIENCY of your system.

Cooling gas is missing. Call some AC service in near to fill it, ask more of them for price. Do not switch it on until you solve this to prevent higher damage.

Seer ratings

That's an older 10 SEER unit. They are not made any more. The lowest SEER made, to date, is 12.

However, that being said, a 10 SEER, 3-ton unit such as the one you have, it is ONLY going to be as energy efficient as it is equally maintained.

To ensure you are achieving absolute BEST energy efficiency, I would strongly encourage you to take the following steps:

1. Unplug your unit, disconnecting the electrical service from the unit.

What are the two red led lights on a skybox circuit board for? Mine are lit up and the unit won't cool. Is that an indication of what is wrong? If so, any idea what it is?

The red lights on the board indicate it is working properly. The purpose of the board is to control the dispensing of the beverages, and has nothing to do with the cooling process. You have a cold control (thermostat) inside the refrigerated area. The cold control is like a switch that sends 120vac to the compressor when cooling is needed. The failure of the unit to cool would be either a bad cold control, compressor, or compressor start relay. Testing of live electrical circuits should be left to a qualified service technician.

Greetings from Downunder, i have a HDWSE12 dishwasher Rinse aid light flashes all the time and it won t go. I put dish liquid in rinse aid container - still flashes. Don't normally have to use rinse...

the rinse aid compartment has to be one of the biggest things in your unit. it helps with drying process or you will have wet dishes, helps with spots, and also with the cleaning process, this is what you can do . add jet dry or rinse aid not soap .fill compartment then close door ,then raise and lower door 3times then open the compartment door and add more repeat this process until you cant add anymore. this will pull all of the air out of the dispenser and allow you to fully fill compartment . the light should go off .

For the soda name tags, I pulled logos off the internet and printed them the correct size on 20-pound paper. Different paper gives different translucence, so you might have to experiment to get the right amount of light coming through.
