This optical drive is a Plug 'n Play device in Windows OS's. The only requirement is connection to a WORKING SATA controller. Check in Device Manager to insure the sata controller is working/enabled and you shouldn't have any problem. Windows will auto-detect / auto-install the drive without user intervention once this condition has been met.

Additionally, you will need 3rd. party recording and dvd decoding software in order to use all the functions this drive was built to perform, ie: play dvd movie disks and record to dvd and cd-rw disks. Windows is sorta limited on what all it will support.... that's the reason for the additional 3rd. party software like Nero or Roxio and PowerDVD or WinDVD.

restart your system or otherwise eject the writer data cable and attach it again. or if the problem is continue then change your data cable of the writer

I will try to help you with the best of my capability.
First, tell me how old is your writer?
Second, switch off your PC, open it up and unplug the writer and replug it again. Maybe the connection was a bit loose. When you restart your PC, make sure that your PC recognises the connection of the Writer. let me know if it works out for you.

phone uk head office 01932455000 and give them hell, I have had the same problem samsung do not have desktop component support full stop! So I have been giving them hell on the laptop support and finally been given this number. I have just phoned it and offices are now shut till monday. Try a lense cleaner something like the above - if that does not work then you will need a new dvd writer drive.
