Rootkit blocking my antispyware program

I've been using STOPzilla antispyware, currently the scanner is unable to operate. I was told by their technical support staff that it is due to an infection from a rootkit. I downloaded and installed SOPHOS rootkit detection and removal, but while it is scanning the HKEY_ USERS registry file, the scan stops and the program shuts down.

What is rootkit

A rootkit is software that is malicious and conceals the presence or operation of another program so that it is difficult to be detected by traditional anti-virus / anti-malware programs. It also makes the higher privilege accounts in the computer ("admin" in Windows and in the case of unix machines - "root") available to the malicious software that permits manipulation of programs and settings that lower classes of account holders usually do not have.

As you may be able to tell, a rootkit installed on a computer is very dangerous. You must use applications that specifically identify, locate and help remove them when found. Traditional anti-virus and anti-malware programs do not do this.

If you suspect a rootkit is running on your computer, google "rootkit" and look for links to programs that will detect and remove them. Most are free. Follow the directions and you should be able to remove it without losing any data on your computer.

I have downloaded stopzilla antivirus version 5 online for free but now my computer wants the registration key to register stopzilla but I am not provided with one.please provide me the free key to...

stopzilla antivirus is a scam, not a real one - you got infected. Try to uninstall it and then run an online scan to see if there is something else in your pc
http://www.bitdefender.ro/scanner/online/free.html
If you can't do the online scan then the pc is beyond repair, you will have to reinstall Windows and lose everything in the process.
Once the scan is complete and the pc is clean download a real antivirus, like

Rootkit

Hello, first try to find the driver from device manager(right click to my computer, properties, hardware, device manager).Once you have open the device manager press on View and check Show hidden devices, your driver(virus) is on non plug and play drivers and with right click you can unistall it.But if is a root kid and a tought one it should have another file in your system to recreate it!So clean your windows temp files and internet temporary internet files(you can with a application or just right click to your disk, properties and click disk clenup). If you still can fix it
download HijackThis and in the main menu press do a system scan and save logfile. After open your logfile and give me the results
Good luck

I downloaded Stopzilla and now cannot connect to the internet via Internet Explorer.

If STOPzilla.exe is located in the folder "C:\Program Files" then the security rating is 6% dangerous. File size is 53,248 bytes. The program has a visible window. There is no description of the program. The process can be removed using the control panel Add\Remove programs applet. It is not a Windows core file.

I have the same problem too..

If you can;t update your antivirus software try an online scanner (I like Bitefender, com) if you are unable to access the website try to access windows update odds are you will be blocked from that site as well.
Which means you have Win32.Worm.Downadup.Gen.
this worm spreads through your entire network so if you are sharing an internet connection disinfect all the pc's.
Removal is quite simple just follw this link (it is provided by Bitdefender)

How can I get rid of CA parental control? I never set it up!

AntiSpyware 2008 is a rogue anti-spyware program from the developers as Antivirus 2009. This program is advertised through misleading and deceptive web sites that pretend to be malware scanners that find infections on your computer They do this to scare you into thinking your infected, even though a web site can't possibly know this, in the hopes that you will download and install the AntiSpyware 2008 program. If you decide to install it, the program will scan your computer and come back with a list of security risks found on your computer that you cannot remove unless you first purchase a license of the software. It is important to remember that these people are preying on your fear and for the most part you do not have the infection they say you do.

Lost Stopzilla on my computer hoaw do I reinstall. My order reference number is MDV660080122110716YYR7 Reg Key: R2vv2vpQHC7F. Thank you Mary Bailey

Have you looked on your Start>all programs list for stopzilla? Perhaps it is just turned off.

Have you looked in your program files folder for Stopzilla? ( My Computer>C>Program Files>Stopzilla)

If there is not an installation (.exe) file there, then try a search from your search utility just type in stopzilla and click on all files and search. I don't know where you saved the file to originally, so I'm covering a couple of bases here.

If you locate the exe. file then you can just click on it to reinstall.
Please NOTE: Before you do that please go to your control panel (install/uninstall programs) and check the list for stopzilla. If it is there uninstall it, so that you can reinstall.)

Be sure to do a clean install which means to close ALL other running programs including your virus control before reinstalling.

After you reinstall, if you can, then do a restart.

____

If you cannot find the file on your system, then you need to go to www.stopzilla.com and redownload the file. When you install it will ask for your number and you can type it in. Be sure that if you use this method, once again turn off all running proggys until the install is complete.

Good luck to you.
