DeLonghi Space Heater does not Heat

Space heaters are becoming more common as people are trying to get their energy costs under control. To try and save money on heating, many people are turning down the heat for their central heating systems and then heating just the area that they are in with a small electric space heater.

While these electric space heaters are relatively inexpensive, there are many people who want to repair their space heater if it stops heating.

If you have an oil filled type space heater and it is leaking or you are thinking of refilling it then check out this tip.

Oil Filled Radiator Heater Leaking

If you have an electric hot air space heater, and it is not working, then there are only a few things that can go wrong. The only parts that can fail are the switch(s) for the heating, the thermostat, and the heating element. Of these parts, the switches, and the thermostats are replaceable, but the heating elements usually are not. Finding the replacement parts can also be difficult. Here is one website that carries many of the parts for these heaters.

To find out which part exactly is the part causing your problem, you will need to follow the power through the switch(s) and the thermostat to the heating element(s) and find out where and if the power is being interrupted before getting to the heating element. If the element is getting power then everything else is working and the element is bad. If there is no power there then go backwards till you find power and replace that part.

Always remember to mark any wires that you remove very well before removing them. There are many people looking for wiring diagrams because they have not remembered where they removed the wires from.

Also make sure to remove power, (unplug the cord) before removing any electrical components from the heater. Also when checking for power with the power on, you must be very careful to avoid a shocking experience that could result in death. Make sure all parts are away from metal parts of the heaters also to avoid shorting the part to the heater and blowing a breaker or ruining the heater.

In many cases, the time, energy and the cost of parts and shipping are not worth the cost of the heater that you are trying to fix. Make sure to check all of that out before trying to make repairs.
My fostoria spacer stop producing heat model 1520 3A. Smell a burn odor fan still works. Sounds different too. can you help? Dennis

Your electric space heater works by using a quartz infrared element, something that can eventually burn out due to use/defects. To fix your space heater, you will have to get another element specific to your model fostoria. While I did a quick search online, I could not find any matches to a replacement, but you can still call the company for one. Before calling, though, check to see if your heater is still under warranty, probably 1 to 2 years. The number for fostoria is 1-800-495-4525. Best of luck.

1 Answer my bionaire bch9221 120 volt heater does not produce heat anymore.....i'm thinking that maybe an element within the unit is burned out.

Mine was doing the same thing. Took it apart and found that the white wire which hooked up from the circuit board to the heating element had burnt which broke the connection...hence no heat....replaced burnt wire and resoldered to heating element...put it back together and voila I have heat once more....still doesn't solve why the wire fried though....

Electrical burning smell in house

Mhenn, It is my guess that the 'electrical burning' smell is from your heating system. Since there is no smoke and the walls are not warm.... then there is no real problem. The smell maybe just dust has collected in the duct work that is burning off the central heating systems electrical heat strips. If you have electrical heat strips then that may be the problem. If you have a central gas heat system, it may be the same type problem. Hope this helps you. Henry

Charmglow Electric Fireplace ***NO HEAT** just lights up, HELP :(

Take the fan power switch apart and clean the 2 point contacts. Also clean the 4 male studs that the wires plug into. That should solve the problem.

IIcant find parts for the holmes heaters. Who carries them?

I have the same problem. I mean it keeps going off prematurely. The heating area is relatively clean and there is no reason for this other than the Thermal Circuit Breaker to be going bad.

I too have fruitlessly tried to find the part. It is made by Klixon and the info about it is as follows: 1NT15L-4165 It is a manual reset bimetal temperature circuit breaker. Mine says L86 L = Limit and 86 I believe represents 86 degrees Celsius which is about 187 degrees F for us Americans.

I found the Klixon people and they told me the part was not available through them; but only through Holmes themselves. So, I of course called Holmes Customer Service.

Turns out that I had a little spat with Holmes' CS Jerky... She informed me that Holmes does not sell parts and that the heaters they build and sell are not serviceable. So, I argued that they are irresponsible with regard to the environment. What, it's supposed to go to a landfill now?

But she insisted that this was so that people didn't start fires with their heaters. And she says that she has two young girls at home and wouldn't want anyone burning down their house and killing their family. So I guess after all that has nothing to do with her keeping her job by Holmes selling me another $79 heater, huh?? lol Yeah right!!! Because the guy at corporate would not want one of their heaters to start a fire. That wouldn't be an acceptable risk to make money. (Sarcasm, in case you missed it)

On another note... It's real unfortunate that you have to take the HQH307 completely apart to clean the heating area so as to not have the heater be a fire hazard. But I'm a risk to my family by taking the thing apart and then removing the two retaining screws out and two wire leads off to replace the malfunctioning part. WTF??? Since I can't get the part I suppose I could just bypass the circuit breaker. I know that's not a good idea.

Well, bottom line is, (can ya take a guess?), that I will not be buying another Holmes Heater EVER!!! Thanks Holmes...

Answer: As far as I know you cannot get the part.

If anyone has a lead on the part please let me know here.

Thanks, LightningMan

Marvin Quartz heater element

Very simple to install the replacement element. Insert one end of the element into the bottom receptacle on either side, press the element down (it's spring-loaded), then slide the top of the element into the center opening of the top receptacle, push to appropriate side (the side of receptacle, same as the bottom), then release. Then do the same with the other element (if both are out).
