This set and the one made the same year the 50V500 both had two main problems----a red or large pink oval in the middle of the screen and the ghosting problem where letters look a little double--hence the term ghost.
I have the Hitachi notice and instructions for this (it was written for the 50V500 which is the same set with a smaller screen size)
It is done by entering the set's service menu and with the remote altering some visual things---
It is copyrighted material written by a Tech at Hitachi--4 pages of step by step instuctions----I have done this on several of their sets.
I cannot post it directly here because of the copyright and I can not give you MY email address.....
Do you have a suggestion for how I can get you this information?

GHOST: MAY BE DESCRIBED AS “OUT OF CONVERGENCE” but ghost is
still attached to Main
image.
CONDITION:
A
“ghost image” appearing to the left or right of images in the picture. Can be varying
shades of a primary color (red,
green, or blue) as well as grey. Can
easily be seen in the
in the
4 x 3 mode at the edges of the picture.
CORRECTION:
To
correct the problem please do as follows:
1. Access
the I 2 C service Menu.
2. To
enter the I 2 C menu with the power off (on the front control panel) press and
hold the INPUT button and while holding it press the POWER BUTTON FOR TWO
SECONDS OR LONGER---The following Service menu will appear:

5. MOVE THE JOY
STICK TO THE RIGHT CURSOR ONCE! The
next page will appear with the word GHOST HIGHLIGHTED.
Cursor right again and a white screen will appear with a BLACK SQUARE in the
center. You will see LCD ADJUST,
followed by SHP AND A NUMBR VALUE TO THE RIGHT OF SHP. If the set is out of alignment (ghost) you
will see a gray ghost on either side of the BLACK SQUARE. Move the joystick to the right or left until
the ghost disappears. The number values
next to the SHP will change up or down…
If the ghost adjustment is off with a lower value there will
be a ghost to the left of the square.
If the ghost adjust is off with a higher number there will
be a ghost to the right of the square.Once
you get the square to look good without ghosts, press the SELECT button to
save any data values that have been changed.Press
the EXIT BUTTON ON THE REMOTE 3 TIMES TO RETURN TO A NORMAL
PICTURE.IT IS VERY IMPORTANT NOT TO TRY TO ADJUST ANY OF THE OTHER SETTINGS IN THIS MENU!
10. THIS COMPLETES THE ADJUSTMENT.
