Fuel starvation - 'lean fuel' condition
Basic things to check:
1) spark plug
2) spark arrestor in muffler
3) fuel lines and tank filter
4) turn adjustment needles out (counterclockwise) 1/4 to 1/2 turn
Chain Saws:
5) check impulse tube and intake boot for cracks or leaks
*if all of the above are OK and/or do not improve performance then:
Remove Carburetor
6) replace gaskets/diaphragms
a) use a spray carb cleaner to clean jets, holes, and body of carb
b) fuel pump diaphragm goes against the carb body,
then the gasket towards the outside
c) metering gasket goes against the carb body,
and the diaphragm goes towards the outside

What size bar and chain go on this for general crosscut work

the bar is determined by the engine capacity
small 35 cc engines run 350- 450 mm bar
bigger the engine the bigger the bar
as for the chain
the bigger the bar the bigger the pitch of the chain
talk with a shop that sells chain saws ( sthil--Mccolluck etc) and get the chain and bar suitable for the motor size

Can I put a 18" bar on my Poulan 35 CC, If not why.

yes you can put an 18 inch bar on this saw. you could even go with a 20 or 24 inch bar as long as it will fit the saw. I wouldn't go much bigger though because it really doesn't have enough power to handle a much bigger bar. And, getting into the dirt makes the saw chain really dull really quickly. Dig around those roots if you don't want to be stuck sharpening your chain every 10 seconds. Take it to your local saw shop and they can fix you right up! Hope this helps...

Can i upsize my chain from a 14 inch to a 16 inch i have a 14 inch mcculloch and i want to put a 16 inch bar and chain on it. it is a 35 cc engine

There will be a 16" option, however things to remember, you will have a drop in power, so you need to keep the chain sharp, the oiling system will probably on its limit.

I have Poulan Pro 42 CC 18" Chain Saw. When I

Check to see if you have the chain oriented correctly - it is east to put them on backward without realizing it. Th3e teeth should point forward, with the anti - kickback lug in front of the tooth. Let me know if this helps!!

Turn the idle speed screw (not the H and L jet needles) CCW until the chain stops turning, but the engine continues to run. Hope this helps!
