Plz try by removing the battery and switch it on, if the problem is persists then you have to take it to servicing centre

If there is any way you can find another power supply that you know works and try it, this will be a really good troubleshooting step. If you know anyone anywhere that has a similar laptop. Or try your power supply on another computer that takes a similar power supply, to see if it works on a known good laptop. Also, try using your power supply on your laptop with the battery removed. If the battery is bad enough, it might make the laptop not boot, even though it is plugged in. If there is no other laptop or power supply available, you should at least be able to use a multimeter to test the output voltage of the power supply. The expected output voltage should be printed on the power supply.
If the plug is loose in the socket on the laptop, the socket may be broken off the motherboard. Some laptops do not have the socket soldered directly to the motherboard, but most do, requiring a motherboard replacement if the socket is broken off.

First get a known good power brick and try it.(Did you measure the voltage under load? Better not to even bother as it shouldn't be 23.5 anyway so discard the power brick before it blows something else up)
The excessive voltage may have fried the on board regulator or blown a fuse; you will need to dismantle to check this, just trace the wires from the power socket to the MB

Maybe unit was already trashed when gifted! Could be corrupted cmos, bad hard drive, bad memory, corrupted OS, bad peripheral. Check with your "friend."

Will not turn on

Are there any LEDs on it at all? If not then it is ver likely that your Power board finally failed. In which case, with this model, you must replace the motherboard.

Dead Sony Laptop

If power supply is supplying correct voltage, then you do not need power supply PCB.

Try starting the laptop with AC adapter and no battery, if battery is shorting out you may get same problem.

Test the soldering joint on the AC socket and laptop motherboard, if there is a bad soldering on laprop ac adapter socket, you get same symptoms.

If it is none of the above, and the adapter is fine, then it is usually a faulty motherboard.
