This is caused by the IAC valve. Over time the valve becomes gummy and inoperative. Get it replaced and the problem is solved. IAC stands for idle air control, hence the stalling concern.

Hello? Emission problem 1994 crown vic here...

I owned one of these. There is a groove under the butterfly horn of the throttle. There are 8 bolts and a $10 gasket. Often the EGR passage is clogged and it throws off the calibrations and when you clean this groove the engine will run much better.

Air intake noise when I turn it on.?

Describe the noise. Is it a hiss, like something isn't connected tightly?Or is it a horn sound? IF it's a horn sound,it could be coming from a component right at the rear of the engine. I replaced one on my boy's Crown Vic.It's hard to do without having some good selections of 1/4"drives or small wrenches.
That sound got so bad that people were getting mad at Justin because they thought he was sounding his horn at them.
I don't remember the name of the component,but it cost me 50 bucks at Auto-Zone. don-ohio (:^D

01 crown vic. making horn noise replaced the egr and iac , cleaned amflow too , but still making horn noise. what to check next! ichanged everything that it could be what am i missing!

Hello Carter.

There is a revised snorkle for the air supply to the idle air control valve.
The design on yours would sometimes create this noise. Usually worse on cold starts.
A good parts guy at a Ford dealership should be able to find the updated part for you.

If you would like further assistance on this problem, ask me in a comment here.

I have 99 crown vic pol interceptor; the passenger side rear wheel has bumping sound when i drive; i took wheel off and saw brake fluid leaking; i cannot determine, how the bumping sound impacts with...

fluid on the pad can cause the pad to stick and then slip--this can cause noise when the pad breaks loose from the disk. fix the leak and clean everything with brake cleaner (or put in new pads)

Does the crown vic police intercepter take as much oil as the regular crown vic? (when changing the oil and filter)

I ~think~ the 1999 is the same as the 2000 (mine is a 2000 P71)

The 2000 CVPI (Crown Vic Police Interceptor) owners manual recommends the following:

Engine Oil - Motorcraft SAE 5W-30 Super Premium Motor Oil 5.0 quarts

Transmission Fluid - Motorcraft Mercon V ATF 13.9 quarts (fluids Mercon & Mercon V are NOT INTERCHANGEABLE, DO NOT MIX)

Fuel Tank - 19.0 gallons

Break Fluid - DOT 3

Rear Axle Lubricant - Motorcraft 80W-90 Premium Rear Axle Lubricant 3.75 pints (add 4 oz of Additive Friction Modifier C8AZ-19B546-A or equilavent meeting Ford Spec. EST-M2C118-A for complete refill of Traction-Lok Rear Axles)

Engine Data - 4.6L V8 Engine
Cubic Inches - 281
Required Fuel - 87 Octane
Firing Order - 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8
Spark Plug Gap - 1.3-1.4 mm (0.052-0.056 inch)
Ignition System - Coil On Plug
Compression Ratio - 10.0:1

I hope this helps!

1999 crown vic keeps getting air locked at the fuel rail?

check your fuel pressure
if you dont have enough pressure this will happen
when the fuel pressure is good the system will just push the air out through the injectors or the fuel return line

Engine knock 1999 ford crown vic

Are u using the recommended fuel ? if so try running a couple of cans of fuel injection upper cylinder cleaner through the system with the next few tanks of gas, try LUCAS brand, it is among the best, the next step is to have the engine de-carboned by the dealer, this works very well, you can also remove an octane selection jumper, it retards the timing 2 degrees, that will most times stop the ping.
