You do need a modem ... the tech probably put one in. I say this because you say there are phones, tv and internet involved. There must be a modem somewhere.

You must run ethernet from your router to the modem.

Cannot install netgear router WGR614 N150

You need to configure your router with below method. Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link. http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.15.1 or http://192.168.2.1 If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it. Then it ask for user name and password. Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank. Then you can see configuration page of router. If you are still not able to access router with above ip then you need to RESET it for that press RESET button for 10 seconds it is in back side of router then all settings defaults..Then you can access it with above method. Then set WAN settings as internet service provider settings enable DHCP. .Click on wireless and enabled it. Then click on wireless->wireless security->WEP security there is code password note down it or enter new password then save setting s and restart router. then you can connect wireless with new password. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.

I've used a Netgear DG834GT with no problems, but when the wireless part stopped working, I've changed to a DGN1000. The original router will still work when connected to my PC, but the new one says I need...

If you change formats to Ethernet on the Netgear, simply run the CAT5/6 wire from the Cat output on the modem to the Ethernet port on the computer. A direct connection should always be AUTOMATIC as long as the operating system DRIVERS are up-to-date.

Netgear N150 Wireless usb adapter just installed. It identifies router and confirms good connectivity, but continues "acquiring network address" without success.

This means the DHCP service is not enabled on the wireless router.

either enable the DHCP service on the wireless router

or

Give a static IP onto your wireless NIC card ( Netgear N150 Wireless usb adapter )

you need a wireless ethernet bridge(like wet54g/wet610n) which will grab signals wirelessly from u're primary router wrt54g,& then a ethernet cable from wireless bridge will be connected to one of the lan port of u'rs netgear router(otherwise u will not be able to do file & printer sharing between 2 routers)Remember, the ip address of all 3 devices shold be of same class.

Netgear DG834G v3 Installation

connect the yellow (or blue?) ethernet cable to your computer, this should connect to the router (router should be ON)

Now, in internet explorer type 192.168.0.1 (this should be the defualt gateway for the router on default settings.

Now you're into the router, there should be a setup wizard button in there.

See if you can set it up using that

Netgear setup

You have to connect to the router with ethernet to get onto the configuration page. what i think what you have to do is to get a lan card and install it.
