The timing belt broke. I had the head re-done.

The timing belt broke. I had the head re-done. Now it will not run. It starts and runs obout 10-20 seconds and then shuts off like the fuel is being shut off.

Yes. We have doubel and triple checked the time. I called a dealer and he said that it might have set a security in it when we took it apart. He said we would have to tow it to the dealer to find out if that is it and it will cost $77 to find out and reset it.

We have gone over everything over and over. Once it starts, you can sit and hold the RPM's at about 3,000.
It will run for about 20 seconds and then it just drops.

Double check all connections, also hope your timing marks were lined up 100% on mark, sounds like timing may be off.or something was left unhooked, also scan computer for any codes. hope this helps.

i dont see how computer would need programing, it wasnt replaced. how about all the sensors are there any pinched wires, be careful sometimes it the most common mistake but people over look it be cause they are so fustrated. just take you r time and start from the begining and check all wiring, also if you hold the gas pedal to keep it running will it stay on,it may need tolearn idle and get lifters or rings oiled up.from sitting and the cleaning, try it.

How do you put a timing belt back in time after it broke?

Well, hopefully the valves were not damaged when the belt broke, If no valve damage was done, get the engine/crankshaft to top dead center, line up camshaft sprocket to timing mark and install belt around pulleys, gears, replace water pump if needed, tension belt if no automatic tensioner is used, try to start to see if it runs and hopefully it will. Might be time for an engine if valve damage was done.

I changed head and cam om a 1989 honda civic lx.now it runs rough. whats the problem?

check for missing vacuum hoses. run fault codes to check for wires not properly connected . Have a compression test done as broken timing belts generally bend valves . IT may not be noticeable but will be enough to affect the engine performance.

I replaced a timing belt on a 2005 Chrysler 300 limited with a 3.5.. car was running fine but the belt broke. Now after replacing the belt, cars running real rough and seems to have no power. Double...

It is an interference engine and you will have bent valves . That will be the cause of your rough engine and lack of power. To test have a compression test done first before pulling the head

This is a 4cyl diesel Beetle. The timing belt broke while driving. Dealer claims no damage done, replaced belt and car was driven for a few weeks. Began to start a bit sluggish, dealer said glowplugs...

my books show it as a interference engine in which case valve damage is most likely to occur
however if that was the case , it would be having a miss from the start and would not run 2 weeks before something happened
if a valve spring breaks there could be valve piston contact but it is doubtful if that would destroy the engine but again breaking valve springs is rather rare on diesel engines
the engine would not just quit but would rattle and bang it's head off then develope a big noisy miss from a hole in the piston
so I suspect a timing belt problem from when they removed/replaced the head after the glo-plug fix or a crank/cam shaft position sensor or wires ( possible faulty connections for the cam shaft)
I would suggest finding an accredited service center for a proper diagnosis and quote for engine repairs

CAR STALLED. DISCOVERED TIMING BELT HAD BROKEN. REPLACED BELT. STILL WILL NOT START BUT WILL TURN OVER

It sounds like the timing is still off, which will not allow it to start, or you have a faulty cam, or crank sensor.

We have replaced timming belt but cant get it to start

Double check and make sure you are set to #1 TDC then verify you have the timing marks aligned correctly. This happens a lot when the timing marks slip and the vehicle is 90 to 100 degrees out of time. If it were 180 degrees out it would start but run very rough. If you replaced the timing belt because it broke while the engine was running do a compression check or connect a small compressor to a line you can screw into the the spark plug holes and see if you have any compression or in 2 or more cylinders have no compression. If this test is true your valves are bent and you will have to have the head rebuilt.

My car alfa romeo timing belt was cut and valves dameged , after replacing the timing belt and at 3000 rpm check engine comes on and the rpm slow done what is your point of view the problem

If you broke a timing belt while it was running you bent valves and the heads need to be worked on.You probably have a cylinder with no compresion and the computer is sensing it.
