Is it time to junk 1999 alero 135k miles?

Where is the gallon of 50/50 going if no leaks and apparently not into the oil? Is it going out the exhaust which would be a bad Head gasket failure? So Some boil over due to overheat? Take the coolant tank cap off then start the car and see if bubbles, maybe steam eventually. If bubbles, they are probably the leaking combustion gases leaking through the Head gasket. Sometimes, retorque of the head bolts will slow the leak down. Otherwise need gasket replacement and possible head mill if it has "warped" or Junkyard heads that are good. You can confirm head gasket leak and location by a leak down test. You may be able to borrow tools from some of the auto parts stores. Have you used "leak stop" in the radiator? Sometimes that will block radiator cooling channels and cause overheating. Hopefully, that is the issue and a radiator replacement the fix. Could be a bad water pump, but if you get heat that is probably not the problem. I did that to a Chrysler many years ago and wife's car! Hope this helps.

1987 toyota pickup with 22r keeps blowing head gasket

Your head bolts are stretched, when it got hot it weakened the metal in the bolts which means that the bolts cannot hold the needed tension on the head. Replace the bolts and you will stop blowing head gaskets. Also use Genuine Toyota head gasket, It will be a bit dearer but they are much better than aftermarket options.

i am also a mechanic and had s ame type of problem with hq ute fitted with 350 chev eng it ran at. 220deg we had radiator checked it was 70 percent blocked it now runs 90-110 i have done quite a few heads on a lot of different makes and models over the past six years and i have the radiator cleaned or replaced now as a part of the job it saves having to worry about the engine overheating after the heads have been done for no apparent reason. i had another car with an over heating problem we could not find any thing wrong with the cooling systme or the engine after finding out the custmer had fitted the termo fans i checked them and found they ran bacwards. i rversed the polarity and it solved the problem hope this helps

no you can blow a head gasket even only getting it hot that one time, it doesnt take much, extreme heat is a engines worst enemy, i would replace head gasket right away and to be safe i personally change the thermostats in my vehicle atleast once a year. good luck
