Have a gas powered generator that I've only used for one season. Can't get it to start. It is a Troy-Bilt pull cord type. I've changed the gas, sparkplug, and oil. But still can't get it running. This is a like-new unit. What gives?

First pull your spark plug out reconnect to the plug wire and ground tot he engine body
Pull the starter cord and see if you have a good clean spark that goes to the electrode and not to the side of the spark plug.
If no spark check your off/on switch

Troy bilt hasn't been used in 2yrs.; has oil and gas in it but will not electric or pull cord start...

1st I would drain the gas and put new in. It loses octane over time. Then try new spark plug. Also you may need a new diaphram in the carburetor. They are cheap and sell them at most hardware stores.

My Troy-bilt generator will not generate watts

I have a Troy bilt 7800 13500 generator. It has maybe 40 hrs on it. And It stopped working. I took it into a shop to have it fixed. Repair cost would be $1000.00 I paid 1200 for it. Shop said the 3 main parts of the generator were fried. The Generator was bought in 2005 and only like 40 hrs on it and it is dead. Troy bilt will not help out with the repair because it is to old, yet it has no real run time on it. Now the generator is just a paper weigh

remove the spark plug.  And pull the cord again.  if the carb float is stuck down or you overfilled the oil you could be hydro-locking the engine.  Check.

Replacing pull cord on troy built mower model # 8654r 4hp

Remove the housing covering the clutch. The cord spool can then be accessed. Replace the cord. Be careful that you maintain the proper spool spring tension. Check operation before reassembling
