The trunk when released makes an extended noise that is hard to describe, and it must be slammed several times in order for it to latch. On top of all this when it is latched I get a message that the trunk is open on my dash? Any help will be greatly appreciated thank you

I don't think it has to with that but more with the actual latching mechanism, it is noisy when I press the release button, I think it may be sticking.

Has anyone had some simmillar problem?

    TIA

One or both support struts may be defective. Disconnect them both from the trunk lid and lay the ends down into the trunk. You will need to support the trunk lid while doing this and the lid will be quite heavier. Now close the lid to latch. Did it latch first attempt? Check for the dash message. If all appears well, replace both struts.

How to get trunk closed on a 2017 chevy impala LT with emergency glow in the dark lever accidentally pulled

Chances are the striker is now bent from slamming the trunk with the latch latched. My suggestion is take the car to a competent body shop. They might charge a little for fixing it, but wont do further damage.

What's keeping my trunk from shutting?

Fuses work or they don't, continuity or not. If it's bad, it is burnt out and not giving voltage, it doesn't work.

When you press the button to open the trunk, a solenoid pulls the catch, and the trunk opens and the catch remains open.

When you press down on the truck lid, the catch base is pressed mechanically and it locks shut.

Your issue is almost certainly 'Adjustment', the catch isn't going down low enough when you press or slam.

Open the trunk, use a screwdriver in the slot to close the catch. Get someone to open the trunk release and watch it open. It it does, it works. You need to slacken off the bolts on the catch or the keeper plate and move it closer.

Trunk will not close

check that latch is releasing when using remote. remote uses a cable to pull latch and cable may need to be lubed causing the latch to stick open. Let me guess if you slam a couple times it will latch, lube the actuator cable and latch well. hope this helps

Trunk wont stay closed

Several times I've been able to fix this problem by tightening the bolts that hold the trunk latch.
If that doesn't work, order and install a new latch. After fixing the latch, find a friend, and
get into the trunk, and make sure that the emergency release (for trapped children) also
still works.

Mine took several hard slams to latch, with top up or down. Finally got dealer to adjust the latch which they originally said wasn't possible. Wore grooves into the latch rod while it was out of adustment, but at least now it closes.

Nissan sentra 2006 My trunk wont open && I spent 2 1/2 hrs trying to break in from the back seats. trying to reach the seat release but cant. The key or remote wont open it. The car latch wont open...

does the key turn the trunk lock?if not theres one issue right there.the other may be that the valet lever on trunk latch assy. may have inadvertantly been engaged if deck lid was slammed closed.the release solenoid will make noise when activated by fob or lever in car but because of valet being engaged cannot release latch.does key unlock glovebox?if not this may also be a valet key cut.contact nissan dealer to cut regular key.ive seen the slamming the deck lid scenario a million times as the valet lever takes hardly any effort to engage.good luck and let me know how you make out.

My jaguar trunk want open because some slammed it shut

There is a possibility that there is an object in between, creating pressure from inside so the latch is stuck engaging the striker. (these objects may be the carpet, wires, the body seal, etc)

First: Push down the trunk while you unlock it.(while you doing this you may listen a mechanical click that means that latch release the striker.)

Second: At the same moment you listen the opening noise, release the push down pressure and pull up the trunk open.( perform this until you achieve the right timing the latch job is to comeback and engage the striker so do it several times).

Another scenario if you have an electronic actuator.

First make sure you that when you press the remote or switch for the trunk there is a little click, if there is a click use the technique above push trunk lid and at the same moment that clicks pull up the lid releasing the pressure down.

And the last option almost all the vehicles had the option to access the trunk from the back seat, and almost all vehicles have a release handle to bypass mechanical latch or electronic actuator.

1997 cadillic sts trunk lid will not latch to close. i don't have a shop manual for the car and am not sure where to start. a 20a fuse labeled pull down in trunk is o.k. have not used dmm or test light to...

Do you mean the pulldown is not working, or the trunk lid latch is not connecting to the pulldown assembly when you try to close the trunk?

This latter case typically happens when someone slams the trunk lid down several times not realizing there is a pulldown system and thinking slamming it will make it close (this often breaks something). Check the latch on the trunk lid - if it's in the closed position, use the key to try to move it to the open position and try gently closing the lid again.

If not, there is also a switch on the pulldown assembly that starts the pulldown motor when it is depressed by the closing trunk lid - you can also check this to make sure it's working. Otherwise, either the latch or the pulldown assembly has been bent/broken.
