This is repairable. Most dryers have a thermal fuse, or limiter, which burns out when the dryer overheats, in which case the dryer will either not run at all or stop heating. The fuse is usually located on the vent duct, inside the dryer. A blown fuse will show no continuity when measured with a meter. Before replacing the fuse, make sure the blower wheel is not broken or clogged, and there is nothing blocking the venting.

    Simply replace the fuse.

My Kenmore electric dryer just stopped drying. .

If your Kenmore electric dryer has stopped drying, there could be several reasons why:
  1. Check the Power Supply: First, make sure the dryer is plugged in and that the circuit breaker hasn't tripped. If you have an electric dryer, make sure the outlet is functioning properly.
  2. Check the Thermal Fuse: A blown thermal fuse can cause the dryer to stop heating. The thermal fuse is usually located on the blower housing or at the dryer's heat source. Use a multimeter to check for continuity. If there is no continuity, replace the thermal fuse.
  3. Check the Heating Element: A defective heating element can also cause the dryer to stop heating. The heating element is usually located behind the dryer drum. Use a multimeter to check for continuity. If there is no continuity, replace the heating element.
  4. Check the High-Limit Thermostat: A faulty high-limit thermostat can cause the dryer to stop heating. The high-limit thermostat is usually located on the heating element housing. Use a multimeter to check for continuity. If there is no continuity, replace the high-limit thermostat.
If the dryer will not turn off, the problem could be a faulty timer or a stuck relay. You may need to have a technician diagnose and repair the issue.

I'm getting an E65 code on my frigidaire affinity dryer. We've replaced the heating element and the fuse. It's still happening. It's been thoroughly cleaned out. What is my next step?

This indicates it is the High Limit Thermostat, which isn't a fuse. Most dryers have three heat related components. They usually trip because of bad airflow, check the hose at the back and the vent in the wall. This is the time that birds make nests in them! Also wash the lint filter with dish soap and a brush. Part No. 33 here

The error code of E65 is a high limit thermostat trip . For Electric Model, check Inlet Thermal Limiter for continuity. If Thermal Limiter is open, check for evidence of high temperature event and any resulting damage. If no further damage is evident, replace Thermal Limiter.

Does the Kenmore Series 700 dryer use circuit breakers or a thermal fuse to shutoff the heating element?

All Kenmore Electric Dryers use a thermal cut-off or thermal cut-out, hi-limit thermostat, and a cycling thermostat apart from the motor centrifugal switch as parts of the heating circuit. The thermal cut-off/thermal cut-out and the hi-limit thermostat are located on the heater duct/element duct while the cycling thermostat is located on the blower housing.

The thermal cut-off/cut-out serves as a safety measure and blows open should the dryer overheats or should the hi-limit thermostat fails to cut off power to the heating element. Check the continuity of the thermal cut-off/cut-out and if open, replace it including the hi-limit thermostat.

Where is the thermal fuse on a series 80 kenmore electric dryer. will this act as though the power is off? How can i test the fuse?

Yes, but there are several thermal limiters, they should reset when the unit cools, so likely that is not what is happening.... Forcefully turn the breaker FULLY off, and then back on, and test again...

The thermal limiters are located along the air flow path, typically downstream of your burner, the purpose is to prevent overheating and fire. These limiters stop the HEATING element and not the drum motor...

Kenmore elec dryer series 80 not heating up

The problem is in the thermal cut-off (cut-out) and the high-limit thermostat located on the heating element housing. Verify this condition by bypassing the said components. Disconnect power then access the thermal cut-off (cut-out) and the high-limit thermostat. Disconnect the wires of each component then connect them together and insulate it properly. Reconnect the power then start the dryer. The problem is indeed in the thermal cut-off (cut-out) and the high-limit thermostat if the dryer heats up. Replace both parts and it should solve the problem. It is an easy and cheap repair to make. Indicate the exact model number of the dryer should you need further assistance.

Trouble code C1 means what?

If a status signal comes back from the motor controller that a current limit has been breached, the unit will return to standby mode and display either "CA" for average current limit trip or "CI" for instantaneous current limit trip.

Average current trip occurs if there is a 2 second average of current draw greater than 5.55 Amps at the motor windings.

Instantaneous current trip occurs if there is a spike of 26 Amps instantly at the motor windings.

This may signify problems with the drive motor, thermal protector or motor controller. Overloading the unit may cause this problem.

The top of our Kemore 87042 dryer is getting untouchably hot while drying. We have taken the unit apart and completely cleaned out all of the body and venting but the problem persists. Will a problem with...

Yes if the thermal or high limit switch is bad, it will allow your unit to get way to hot, and just keep producing heat instead of shutting down the burners then lighting then back up and the unit drops down to a lower temperature. I would replace the thermal or high limit switch ( They are the same thing)

No heat

Check the home electrical fuse panel or reset the breaker (even if it looks like it's not tripped).
