Hello i have compaq evo d510 and

You need to partition your Hard drive to however much you want reserved for the Linux OS. You need to get a live CD of the Linux distribution you want and after you have partitioned your Hard drive, you need to boot from the live CD and install Linux onto the Partitioned part of the hard drive. DO NOT install Linux onto the regular partition, this will mess up your current operating system

I have a compaq Evo n1015v and I need the directions to replace the LCD backlight.

Do you do your own dentistry, and do your own exploratory surgery?
Probably not, because you would need to ask "how" to do it. :-)

If you need to ask "how" to fix your laptop, you should STOP, because the risk of damaging your laptop while disassembling it, is too great.

Pay a qualified technician for less than one hour of their labour, and get it done correctly.

Non-system disk or disk error

Is you cd-rom drive shot - are you trying to boot up your computer through an xp or windows cd? If it is, it's not going to recognize and boot up. You'd be best getting a new drive - look around for someone with a Compaq Evo 800cp. They have the same exact cd-rom drive. Here are your compatible cd-rom devices:
TEAC DW-224E-A
or a Compaq DVD-ROM DRN-8080B
otherwise try a HP SD-C2612. I have these three drives. They all work really well.
