SOURCE: changing belt on vacuum cleaner

If you can't see the motor shaft then you will have to take the top cover off. Some have a couple of scres to remove from the bottom. Then is a slot on each side, from the bottom put a flat blade screwdrive in the slot and push out and up to release the locking tabs. The knob may pop off so watch for that coming off. Put the belt on the brush roll, then feed the belt up thru the opening and stretch it to go over the motor shaft. Put back together.

SOURCE: Sanding Belt Slips Badly

Check and see if the pulleys on the sander are not glazed this somtimes will cause the belt to slip. Give them a good cleaning. If this does not help there is a good chance the spring on the belt tensioner is weak and need changed.

Hop this helps

There is a black metal ******** one side that is actually a lever and with the tip of a screw driver or the like, pops out and releases the front roller.

I have one of those and I just smack the front roller ahead with a brass or plastic hammer. I hit the movable bracket that the roller is attached to. It takes a pretty stout whack to do it though. hope this helps you

SOURCE: broken drive belt on belt sander

My answer comes almost a year after the original question, but I'll post it anyway for those who end up here after a search.
Black & Decker no longer supplies drive belts for the BR400 sander, but you can get a replacement elsewhere if you know what to ask for.
The belt is a synchronous, single-sided "XL" series belt, and mine had 120XL031 printed on it. The belt width is 0.31in or 5/16in or 7.9mm. Its pitch (distance from tooth to tooth) is 0.20in or 1/5in or 5mm. Its total height is 0.09in, and tooth height is 0.045in. It has 60 teeth, making the total length 12in.
I found a replacement at sdp-si.com, part number A 6R 3-060031.
Look here for timing belts (inch), then narrow the search for single-sided, .200 (XL) pitch, 60 grooves, 5/16 width.

I have a Black & Decker sander, model # 7447 and am having problems changing the sand paper.

The 7447 does not have a release lever. To change the belt, you must release tension of the rollers by pushing the front roller straight back until you hear it click and lock in position to change paper. Remove old paper and replace with new paper. Make sure if new paper has directional arrows to install properly.
Now you must release the front roller to put tension on paper. To do this push the front roller from the side that has the adjustment screw. This will release the front roller and allow it to go back into position. Be careful as it pops back quickly and with some force.
Turn on sander and adjust centering of paper with adjustment screw found near the front and side of sander.

My Hitachi Belt sander SB75 the sanding belt moves off rollers as soon as applied to work piece how do I stop this happening?

There is a belt adjustment know on the side of the sander. Turn the adjustment know back and forth while the sander is running until it centers itself.

I have a ryobi belt sander EBS81321K Serial no 048911. The switch has developed a fault. Could you please advise where I can get a replacement & what would the cost be

Is that a BE321VS belt sander? I'm not getting any hits on that number you listed, and Ryobi is a little picky about what model number you use to search their parts database...
If it is, try this link to see a page where you can access a parts list. http://www.ryobitools.com/support/parts_batteries
Click on the button to go to the Power Tools Parts Store, then click Repair Parts Catalog, then agree to terms and enter the catalog page. Select the Model tab, type 321 in the box and press Search...
That brings you to a page listing the BE321VS sander.
Select Illustrated parts list and click on belt sander. This will open the parts view. From there you can scroll down to see if that is in fact your sander, and if so, scroll down to part 23, and select the switch (#760390001) and add it to your cart. Now close the window with the part view, and navigate back to the page titled "Ryobi Electronic Parts Catalog" (a tab on your browser), click on shopping cart at top, and when that opens click on the button to proceed to checkout and enter your info and pay, etc.
The cost of the switch is $4.44 USD. This web site will only ship to a street address in the US, so let me know if you reside elsewhere....

Belt slipping

I have a Ryobi sander with a belt slipping issue as well. The problem seems to be in the design, not on the user end. The drive barrel is made of a semi-hard, non-gripping material. Wood dust becomes a final release agent that breaks any grip that the barrel may have had.
To compound the problem, the more the belt slips the smother the underside becomes allowing for greater slippage.
I now know why this model was the least expensive unit. >.<
