My better guess is a CMOS chip is either bad or there is a cold solder connection in the vicinity. If the power supply is bad, the receiver would not power up.

check contacts inside the battery compartment are perfectly clean and install NEW batteries (alkaline good quality). If remains the same problesm, needs to be repaired at Garmin´s shop

I have discovered an intermittent problem on my 10 year old 295 when powered by batteries.
It appears that the chrome plating is de-laminating from the battery contacts that are either side of the back panel attachment hole. At first glance it looks perfect but if you run a fingernail or other small item across the face of the contact you will see and hear a movement as if there a a loose layer of foil over it. This is causing all manner of faults including 'external power lost, shut-down in 30 seconds' when the external power was not even connected at all!

if it doesnt have audio input then your gonna have to get whats called a wired or wireless fm modulator. what that does is it takes the audio from the harman carman and transmits it over a specific fm stereo station and alows you to listen to the audio that way. I would recomend a wired fm modulator because the sound comes in clearer than wireless and you can pick one up at a local shop as a best buy, pc richards or one online at crutchfield.com. hope it helps

Detailed road map data, with addresses, hotels, gas stations, etc. can be loaded into a data-card/cartridge/memory-card using Garmin's Mapsource software such as Metroguide or City Navigator. This can be changed as needed via a PC.
The 295 does not have driving routing/guidance through the streets as most of today's GPSs have, but it will show you exactly where you are on the street (but it should be switched to Road mode).
Driving routing is possible on the PC using Mapsource, but ithe route doesn't transfer well to the 295 because of the limits on waypoints.
