Download a free program called "Chirp" and with a program cable you can connect and program and also check the programs in the HT and by default these radios are not programed. You will need to know the frequencies and PL tones to enter into the programing software, These are a true pain in the neck and almost impossible to program from the keypad. buy the program cable from the dealer or off of Ebay and use CHIRP to do this.

I bought a baofeng uv5r and want to link it to my work radio which is a vertex standard vx160u..I can transmit from the work radio to the baofeng but cant figure out how to transmit back to the vertex

First of all, technically, you can't use this radio to talk to anyone other than ham radio- that being said, if you want to proceed at your own risk. Ok, is your work radio an analog radio? Is it narrowband FM? Is it digital MOTOTRBO? Last two will make if difficult. Digital is impossible. Next, find out the exact transmit and receive frequencies for your radio. They may not be both the same if you have a radio 'repeater' your input frequency could be 5MHz higher than your receive frequency. And last- you need to know if your system has a "PL" tone (CTCSS, or DCS) subaudible tone that will break the squelch. So there are several variables that you will need your plant supervisor to relay to you. Good luck. You can probably get much of this info on line from radio reference.

Releasing talk button

Check to see if you have a beep (roger) setting turned on. Other than that, it may be something in the switching circuitry that is causing this. Are any of the other radios in you group the Baofeng GT-3? This is a real hard one to pin down without some hands on and test equipment.

I need to tune my baofeng gt-3 mk2 to the same frequency as my baofeng bf-888s I can hear the bf-888s with my gt-3 but cannot talk I've tried every website why cant i talk over it????

1. Make sure both radios are transmitting and receiving on the same frequency (no repeater offset).
2. Either turn off CTCSS tone or make sure both radios are set to the same tone on both Tx and Rx.

My baofeng radio will transmit but will not reseive

Check your settings for the RX frequency. Then check to see if the RX Tone is turn on and is set to the correct frequency. Just turning the rx tone off should allow you to hear any station coming in.

I can transmit to my to my baofeng vr6 but i cant reiceve a transmit from it to my icom v85

Check the input output settings.
the baofeng is notorious for being somewhat difficult to program manually.
Try the software setup if possible.

Baofeng UV5RA WILL NOT TRANSMIT

First, it's illegal to use that radio in the FRS bands. Also many of the Baofeng radios have very "dirty" output (spurs, frequency drift, bad modulation, etc). Your best bet is probably to buy another radio. With these radios about 3 of 10 I've tested have been bad.

I just purchased two Baofeng BF 888s radios and had them programmed to our frequency here. They will both receive and transmit with each other but not transmit to the radios we already had. Any ideas?

Your radios could be programmed with subaudible tones (CTCSS) or digital code squelch (DCS) which the new radios do not have. They can be programmed for it, you need to find out what tone/code you are using.
It could also be that your existing radios are programmed for a "duplex" repeater channel, with different transmit and receive frequencies. The new radios might be on the "repeater output" frequency so they would not activate the repeater.
Both could be the case, missing tone and duplex frequencies.
I would check the programming of the new and old radios, especially for tone/code squelch.

My cb will turn on but i cannot talk to anyone, im getting nothing. Why?

Does it Transmit?? Does meter show transmit?? Can you hear?? If its hearing an transmit gone..it could be Microphone, or speaker, or other more serious problems inside circuit. Change mics and hook up Ext Spkr. If that does not do it, then radio is gone. Buy new radio instead of repairs.
