Im trying to install new hd in my laptop. My other hitachi travalstar crashed. Installed new wd 160. It reads os disk but when i press enter to install it displays ( setup did not find hd drives installed in your computer. Make sure any hd disk drives are powered and properly connected to your comp, and any disk related hardware configuration is correct. this may involve running a manufacturer supplied diagnostic or set up program.
no the hd is not showing in bios either and i had a 80g in it. It was a hitachi and now i put a wd160 i cant even format it in any way. I tried everything. I checked a bunch of forums and a few have had same issue but no fixes. im going to try a hd same as old one to see if its a capability issue. Thanksno the hd is not showing in bios either and i had a 80g in it. It was a hitachi and now i put a wd160 i cant even format it in any way. I tried everything. Is the hard drive showing in bios? you may have a hd too large for the bios to read. has it been fdisked or formatted?how large was the od hd? was it the same type hd? either way when you reload the operating system you will need a disk. post back and let me know, i will try and help. just the info you gave is not enough to attempt repair.
You can slipstream the drivers from the floppy into an ISO image of the Windows XP installation CD using a program like nLite. You can then burn the slipstream ISO image into a CD & use it to boot & install Windows XP without the need to use the floppy disk.
You can download nLite at the following link: http://www.nliteos.com/download.html After downloading the installer, install the program & start using it.
The following link describes how to use nLite to slipstraem the SATA drivers into the Windows XP installation CD: http://maxeasyguide.blogspot.com/2008/04/preparations-for-winxp-installation-cd.html
I tried this myself, & it worked without problems. I now no longer need to use the floppy drive when installing Windows XP on my system.

Borrow an operating system disk from a neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker to reinstall windows. Just borrow the version that your Certificate of Authentication (COA) sticker on the bottom of the laptop says. Also make sure you can read the Product Key Code on the COA. Also get the product key code for the disk you borrow because sometimes during installation or activation it will ask for the Key that is on your sticker, and sometimes it wants the key from the installation disk.
Just make sure you borrow the same version of windows that your COA says is installed on your system otherwise you'll have problems activating it.
you get this message when there is some hardware which is incompatible or fails / crashes during the installation of OS since you have tried a different hard disk already it cannot be that so try with a different Ram or update bios / replace motherboard.
if you have a new hard drive you will have to install the windows operating system from an external source such as a cd drive
go to bios --boot settings and change from 1st boot hard drive to 1st boot cd
install the win os and then you can install the rest
when finished go back to bios and -boot and change back to 1st boot hard drive
first ..Im not sure I understood how you installed windows on the new Hdd..but I sow that you didn't do it in the laptop .. the correct way is to see if the laptop is seeing the Hdd..and to install the windows directly on the hard disk installed into the laptop ...by using boot-able installation disk with the operation system ..Cause if you install it on another device ..or other way ..it will not recognize the devices present on the laptop ..and most likely to give you a blue screen ..and errors like the one you just got .. Another thing ..you have to go to bios settings ..advanced st-up ..most likely ..and see the Hdd in there ..and on its settings to disable the AHCI function ..cause if you do not have a disk with sata drivers ..the laptop with the AHci function enabled will not see the hard disk ..and this is the error and what it means ...basically it didnt found the boot device ..cause of this function probably enabled in bios..It is not hard to disable ..just press F2 on start up ..and go to BIOS settings ..and look for the feature that allow you to see the Hdd and disk drive ..and set them u ..it is either the device .or the advanced settings..Im not remembering exactly ..its the second or the 3rd feature..and in there you will find a function named...AHCI...this have to be disabled in order that the laptop to see and function with the HDD ..otherwise it will say that the HDD is missing or the boot device is not present ..
May its your hard disk wish have a problem. Try to install your OS on an external hard disk or change the internal hard disk. See what happen. if it show blue screen it may be an hardware error.
you mean you have 2 hard disk installed in your unit? if so, set the jumper settings of your main hard disk which the operating system(windows) located, set it to master and the other hard disk set it to slave or remove the jumper cap, im sure this can fixed your problem
os not found usually means that your hd is faulty.
try remove hd and reseat it.
if no joy have os disk(windows) in cd drive start pc and boot from disk.
select install windows...system checks drive and informs of existing os..want to continue...install windows...next screen shows partitions.choose to delete partition then create new then format and install.
if when u try to boot from disk system say no hd found then hd is damaged.
why dont you try 40000 in the first partitioned..if doesn't work.. try fix your hard drive using a seatools, a bootable disk, that can detect and repair a bad sector for a hard drive..
I'd like you to get into your bios. At the main bios window make sure your bios is seeing the hard drive correctly (model number). Also check that your cdrom is listed. While in the Bios go to boot & correct the boot order. 1st should be cdrom, 2nd should be your new Hitachi.
You mentioned you connected it to a PC. Than you installed WinXP & everything went fine. Disk read error means your laptop does not like the FAT. When you bought the Hitachi did you get a disk utility? If not download it from the link provided here & test your drive. Use the disk utility to set up your new drive & format
it with the utility. Try again to boot to your cdrom & install WinXP. If your XP does not include SP1 or SP2 your drive may show a smaller size. http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm
Good luck, I hope the disk utility fixs the problem. http://www.hitachigst.com/tech/techlib.nsf/techdocs/50C8DBC2A315A4C786256F400065B756/$file/7K100_SATA_FINAL_DS.pdf (Info)
