This toaster oven gets extremely hot

This oven gets extremely hot and it makes the electrical outlet that it is plugged into very warm as well. We have started unplugging the unit unless it is in use. Sometimes, it will even trip our breaker if it is in use. The cord gets very warm. It is still under warranty, should we return the unit?

Definitely return it. It has a partial internal short which is appying full power to only part of the heating element causing th excessive heat. No properly working appliance should make the outlet hot.

SOURCE: Why does this toaster oven cord gets hot?

I would make sure the cord doesn't get too close to the back of the oven. Make sure it has room between the oven and wall and isn't trapped under it or direct heat.

I had my cord get squeezed between the machine and the wall and my cord melted.

SOURCE: KitchenAid toaster oven Mod# KC010058

Using this solution:
the problem is the current overload switch is faulty, the bi metal spring should heat up and break contact with the pin. this does not happen, the heat builds up and the solder holding the pin in place melts away and the pin falls down. this breaks the contact and no electrical current will result.

I opened the overload switch and put a solder drop on the ping. Works like a charm!

Thanks FixYa!!

SOURCE: my ge toaster oven has a short circuit. It trips

I could not reach the electronics to use a multimeter. Had to dis assemble 80% of the oven to even clean the electronics. Lots of crumbs.I used a 1" soft paint brush to clean. Tried the oven ON switch one more time.It worked!
No Problem - But re assembly was a nightmare.
I should have used my bicycle air pump.

My toaster oven will not stay off. It turns back on and goes to the stay on setting. How do i get it to stay off?

Hello, Pamela -

You can unplug the toaster oven and only plug it in to the electrical outlet when you wish to use it.

Without knowing the make and model of your toaster oven, it is a challenge to provide you with other, more relevant advice regarding repair.

Best wishes.

We bought a farmer ware rotisserie and the cord next to the plug is hot. We moved it to another outlet but it's still hot.

The cord to the Faberware Rotisserie will get extremely hot. I am on my third cord because the other two got so hot that they caught fire. The grills are nice to cook on, but never leave them unattended when cooking

The outlet plug gets very, very hot

STOP using the unit immediately. Your plug getting very hot indicates a very poor connection somewhere between your outlet and the oven switch. This is definately a fire hazard so do not use the unit until you have found and fixed the problem. It could also be the outlet itself not making a good connection with the plug. Look at that first. If the plug doesn't fit tight in the outlet, the outlet must be replaced. If the plug is tight, you may have a switch in the oven itself with a poor connection. The oven must be taken apart to find out where the problem lies if your outlet is good. You may find parts that are melted in the oven which would indicate a problem. It's hard to say exactly what the problem is without actually looking inside the oven to see whats going on. Whatever you do, DO NOT use the oven until the problem is fixed or the oven may end up being the least of your problems...

My black & decker tro964 is not heating

That may sound like a stupid question, but is it plugged in?
Have you tried to plug in the toaster on a different power outlet?
If there is a ground fault switch where the toaster is plugged in (that's those outlets which have 2 buttons on the front, one labeld "Test" the other usually labeled "Reset") unplug the toaster and push the "Reset" button and try the toaster again. To test, if the power outlet, were the toaster is usually plugged in, is working, try a hair dryer or any other device on that outlet.
Its most likely cheaper to replace the whole toaster than to replace the heating elements, for about 40 $ since that's the price of your toaster on some websites.

Bake no longer works

Kitchen aid will not help, will not sell the part and will not give you a part number for ordering.
the part that goes bad is one of the 2 piggy back function switches. it gets hot from electricity and deforms the plastic causing the connection inside to fail.
I traced all the wiring and made a schematic to use for testing. Kitchen aid refused to even talk about it, so what I share is from my own experience.
By the way, I could not find this part (fz31-9) other than in china and it has a specialized cam inside and 5 connectors. there are 8 that match and not knowing witch cam, makes it very difficult to guess.
the attach diagram worked for me, but it man made and could contain errors.

Black & Decker toaster oven won't work

We've had many of these over the years...they seem to run along just fine, and then, one day, they quit. There is no fuse, but if it's the only thing plugged into that wall outlet, the one thing you might check is the circuit breaker on that line. To be sure, plug a lamp into the socket just to make sure you're getting electricity out of the wall.

Sorry to say, it may be time to purchase a new unit.

I had a house with old funky wiring. I'm pretty sure it caused me to blow a fuse in my toaster oven. Can you tell me where the fuse is located?

The manual mentions nothing about any user serviceable fuse or reset. "Funky" wiring in your home shouldn't cause an appliance to fail. Wiring that is in poor condition usually results in blown fuses or tripped circuit breakers in the service panel, heat in places it shouldn't happen and of course, fires.

It is very possible that the outlet is worn to the point that it doesn't make very good contact with the toaster's plug and has caused the toaster to fail to heat up. Try removing the toaster to a different outlet and try again. Check the original outlet with another appliance or lamp, etc. to see if it works or not. Also, check to be sure any ground fault outlet hasn't tripped.

If the toaster fails to work as expected in another outlet, there's little you can do to repair without jeopardizing your safety - especially if you're not familiar with appliance repair. These appliances aren't really meant for disassembly - manufacturers don't want to be liable for "repairs" that end with injuries, burns and death so the make them pretty hard to take apart. Even if you are successful, they make even harder to reassemble without it looking obvious that it has been disassembled.

Take it apart if you want - learn about how it works and buy a new one. These devices don't rely on rocket science and the controls are pretty simple - but it is an electrical device and electricity isn't a hobby. Be safe. Be smart.

BTW - I don't want your money - I just don't want you to get hurt.

Goiod luck!
