Died, , F.o.r.d found on road dead. stalled.
then jumper cable start , attempted, (AAA TOW or the unschooled? donor car running ,cables set, for 3 to 5 min. then crank?)
to NO AVAIL. ???? (could mean not start, or cant crank)
(answering for SILENT starter ,cranking with key)
my guess, is , the battery went dead driving
and the charge light was glowing telling you the charge system failed, then the battery went dead.
not so dead that lights are dead.
Charge the battery if dead using a tool called a charger?
the starter uses 100 amp.'s current flow to start. lights near zero current, at dash.
or 5 amps for head lights. lights run off any near dead batteries, this is a fact.
starters in cold worst case can hit 500 amps.
100 times more.

so since the jumper cable test fails.(NO AVAIL)
that tells me the starter is dead, but why?
but wait, that means the key line can be dead,.
my guess,(unstated) the car has and a/T automatic transmission.
so crank the key with shift lever in neutral
this magic trick uses free contacts in the PRNDL
shift switch, after the P , fails.
1; check fuses.
2: clean battery cable lugs now (skipped service)
3: check battery voltage 12.6vdc rested, is charge less is not . ok battery seems charged..so..
4:then hot wire the starter (ask)
5: if that works the starter is good. (super fast way to test a suspect starter)
6: if that test passes, the key line is dead, ,try neutral yet. starting.?>
7: if car is clutch/ stick shift car, the clutch switch is dead, if starter test 4 pass.
got all that>?>?? if not get car fixed.

or if all that seems too Tech, most get car serviced, now.

the key post here, is JUMPER CABLE STARTS are , NO AVAIL. (means wont crank means wont
crank the engine over, tells me the problem is not the battery bad, or weak or discharged
but could be green rusty battery terminals.
and really is the 1st check , for the green.
    green with corrosion.
if a pro tow truck did this, they check that first . after all the remote battery they use, needs those to be good. to work right.
did you let the donor car run, with jumpers connected.? for 3 min, at least.
we try first jumped if fail, look at watch
count to 180 (3x60) then turn key 1 more time. oops starter failed n.. (or key line)

if a good charged battery is used. and fails
we can then hot wire the starter, at starter
if that works hold your wallet, the starters good if it cranks
then see why the KEY line is dead
    top cause
bad PRNDL switch on a/t box
or bad clutch switch on the clutch pedal. top.

Hi Teresa thats ththhe sign of a battery going bad, how old is the battery? You might want to have it load tested so you can trouble shoot further, there could be more than 1 issue.

Once started, kept stalling, replaced Cylinoid Resistor. Did not solve problem

Had the same problem on 91 metro. Would idle & when stepping on gas, would die. Sometimes, Icould drive it but still died. Found out the ngine was flooding. Maual said check ignition, replaced cap & roter to no user. Thought maybe the throttle body wa ssomehow the problem. Had another body but that was not the problem. Manual said check for kinked return line. Not the problem. Had the return line off the throttle bodt and blew into it. Had a blockage. Blew into it until blockage disloged.

Success! Took me a week of troubleshooting but I solved my problem Car runs great now,. Now I have to figure out how to clean the gas tank out.

I would focus on what's making your car hot.... a bad catalytic converter sounds like what you have...It's before the muffler..It gets clogged up...makes car run a little hotter and harder to start....Google it

1996 Geo Metro Clutch won't disengage

Hi,

In all likelihood two (2) possibilities:
  • defective clutch cable (most likely); and/or
  • defective clutch fork (least likely).
Should it be the cable, this might be of help. It is turns out to be the fork, you might need the services of a qualified professional or a dealership.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.
