Model tr-501. Why does it hum but produces no sound?

Damaged. Never designed to be dunked.

Sounds like a ground loop. Is it possible your new antenna is somehow grounded to an electrical ground, such as an outlet box? Should be nothing metal connected to the antenna or mast except the RG6 cable.

in the forum? why is this in Cars & Trucks.
but if is. youd be better served in Electronic Insturments id bet.

Try reducing the Bass of the woofer. Also try moving it away from any other electrical devices as there might be interferance from other devices resulting in the humming sound.

Sounds like a grounding issue. The first two places to look into is the powered subwoofer and antenna. During your last test, did you leave the FM antenna and subwoofer connected? Many times the hum is directly related to the antenna and/or the subwoofer and to how they are grounded; creating a ground loop through the receivers ground on the outlet. If the antenna is grounded to the dwellings wiring, hum is inevitable and sometime you can get a ground loop hum from how or how & where the subwoofer is grounded. Try taking them completely out of the loop.

Also try taking it further back to the basics, start with the receiver plugged into a known good grounded outlet with no surge or line conditioner in the loop and nothing connected to the receiver, nothing. Use one speaker and different wire to test each speaker output while in tuner and any other mode but phono. With no signal, you will either get nothing (no hum or static) or just static in the tuner mode. No hum is a good sign. Some systems will mute the speakers if no signal is connected to eliminate the static from being produced through the speakers but a ground loop hum will most likely still be produced even in mute. If you get a hum when nothing is connected to the receiver, try looking into getting a better grounded outlet, even maybe to a different dwelling.

Good day heigei, hi if you turn on the speakers but no ON lights came on, the problem is your Speakers' power supply stage, either a fuse opens (most likely) or something got burnt from the plug to the transformer, then to the rectifier diodes (got shorted then fuse opens) or to the regulator section. check also the power switch for poor contacts, of course you may need to open the speakers, If by any chance you hear something like hum.... check for open signal wire, check the IC amplifier also, a bad IC amplifier produce no sound or produce a loud humming/cracking sound. If you have no idea of what im talking about, have it checked by a technician. thats it.

u need 2 find out the ohms on the speakers 1st 2 c if the amp u want can hander ur speakers

It sounds like one of the internal solder welds to the cable or a/v connections inside the cable box is bad.
