1.) you never check your transmission fluid and it is low. Check it and fill according to instructions in your car's owner's manual. Check your oil, while you're at it. Get your dad, boyfriend, husband, or female companion to teach you how to check your car's oil, transmission fluid, coolant, brake fluid, and any other hydraulic cylinder fluid. All adults should know how to do this.
IF YOU DO NOT LEARN TO DO THESE THINGS, YOU CAN COUNT ON VERY EXPENSIVE CAR REPAIRS. Repair shops will love you. I have a foolish brother who wrecks his automobiles' engines repeatedly because he says "I shouldn't have to do this stuff".
2.) there is a broken linkage cable or rod.
3.) a bad electrical connection.
4.) you trashed the transmission by putting it in gear while rolling in opposite direction of desired travel
It is likely you will need help with this. It is likely you will need a repair shop. Get help from friends and family, BEFORE going to a repair shop. Look for an online ratings service such as Angie's list or Yahoo yellow pages to make sure you don't go to a rip-off joint.
Good luck Kimberly!
