How do I fix oil being in my radiator but no water in the oil? Oil is not milky or anything on the stick just looks like oil in radiator.

My Jeep was overheating I put water in it and made it back home fine. I checked the radiator to see if it had water in it and there looks to be oil in the radiator but no signs of discoloration on the oil stick, it looks fine. So no water in the oil but oil in the water??? When I first got the Jeep the AC was disconnected. When I connected it is when I first had a problem with it overheating. I don't know if that has something to do with it?

It could be the oil cooler (if fitted) leaking into the water jacket See pic, or the head gasket

2004 Chrysler pacifica has milky brown liquid in the reservoir and the oil stick looks good. None on the stick and just change the radiator.

The milky brown liquid floating at the top of your coolant reservoir is almost certainly OIL. This is usually a first indication of a head gasket issue, especially if your vehicle has recently overheated.

2001 blazer overheated now knocks and runs bad

Hi Wendy, hope I am wrong but it sounds like a cracked head or blown head gasket.
If the engine hasn't been started in a couple hours pull the engine oil dipstick and look at the oil level. If the oil level is over the full mark you likely have water in the bottom of the oil pan. Milky/semi-white oil on the dipstick would indicate the same. If the oil looks good and at or below the full level look in the water overflow for the radiator. Any sign of oil or milky looking foam is an indication of oil in the water from cracked head/block or blown head gasket. If both the water and oil look good start the engine, let it warm up and look to see if you have water coming out of the exhaust pipe. It is normal to see some water come out of the exhaust after starting a cold engine due to condensation in the muffler and catalytic converter but a healthy engine should have only a slight amount of water vapor coming out of the exhaust. Anything more would indicate a cracked head/block or blown head gasket.

Milky oil dip stick

You are getting antifreeze in your oil. If you continue to run it the engine will be ruined. The oil pump will fail to pump foam. Sorry I can't tell you where the problem is. The first time I had this was with my 1953 Ford flathead v8. Luckily I happened to look at my oil pressure gauge just as it was dropping to zero. It needed a new head gasket.

My 04 jeep grand cherokee is smoking from the radiator. the radiator fan doesn't appear to be running. i've had to put more and more coolant in the resivior because it keeps going right through it...

well, probably needs radiator replaced, burning off fluid smoking problem?if not going out exhaust or in oil, have radiator checked-replaced,if fan not running check relay and fuses, might need fan replaced,if you overheat engine to bad you will blow head gaskets and this is costly.check your oil,see if gray and milky,if so blown head gasket and water-antifreeze in oil,if going out exhaust will be blown head gasket inbetween the cylinders, fix radiator and fan first, but check out to see where all fluid is going.

Antifreeze has a white millky substance to it especially in coolant bottle and in hoses. Mechanic say that radiator is failing. Is this true?

Check the oil and also transmission fluid, one of them should also be milky. If it's the oil that is also milky then most likely cause is blown headgasket. If it's transmission fluid, then the radiator probably has failed in the transmission cooler section. If the transmission fluid is milky, then you also need to have the fluid flushed and the trans. filter changed after fixing the radiator.

I have oil leaking into my 1990 ford festivas radiator, what could be causing this?Is this a serious problem?

It could be the transmission oil leaking since the transmission fluid goes through the bottom of the radiator to cool off. You may need to replace the radiator. But if it's motor oil then there is a blown gasket on the motor or crack. Look at the motor oil on the dip stick and see if it looks normal or is milky looking indicating that there is also water in your motor. If it's just the radiator then it's not a serious as it is if the water is in the motor. Motor will be damaged with water in it.
