You've got the Red Ring of Death (RRoD error message).

Connect your 360 to a TV or whatever you normally display it on. Try turning it on, and it should come up with a black screen. On the screen there should be an error message. Look at the code on the bottom. This code is extremely important, so write it down. The code will be an 'E' something, followed by two numbers.

Call Microsoft about it, and they can arrange to collect your Xbox 360 for you and send it off for repair. If the console is within a one year warranty, all repairs are free.

If the error is an E74, and you are out of warranty, don't panic! Microsoft have a 3 year warranty included for free, provided you have the E74 error.
