Most freezers have a red neon light on the door to indicate if there is a loss of power, so that you can mitigate food loss before you call a service co.

I have a Skandiluxe CF 136 chest freezer & the orange (fast freeze) light is on all the time.

The compressor won't burn out just because it's running all the time. The plastic fascia pops out easily from behind(take the little panel off on the side) Set the thermostat to the middle of its range and switch the fast freeze off.

MODEL AFG 5496-C FREEZER WHICH BUTTON SHOULD BE LIT WHEN SWITCHED ON TO FREEZE

Green light means that freezer is connected to the mains/electric

Red means that your freezer has not reached minimum working freezing temperature, this is not good news, something may be wrong with your freezer, get it checked by a competent person.
yellow light means that you have switched the fast freeze button on. This yellow switch allows the freezer to run continuously so that the frozen food you brought home from shopping can freeze up quicker. You must not leave this light on for more than 3 hours. It will cause you to waste a lot of electric and will place a lot of stress on the working component in the fridge.

Re lights lit on freezer

Red light lit on freezer means that is not reaches operating temperature.

Most often the old freezer has three indicator lights.
- Green light : that it is brought to a power source and turned on - Red light : means that the temperature is above -18 degrees
- orange light : pressing the so-called SUPER-switch which means that the compressor is running continuously. The SUPER-button switch on a few hours before you begin deep-freeze foods. Freezing time depending on foods quantity (kg). With old freezer must be careful to turn off the switch S (orange light) when the red light goes out or when foods are frozen, otherwise after a few days may burn out the compressor. You should be following the instructions from user manual.
In new freezer managed by the electronics, this function has a predetermined maximum duration, in order to protect the compressor, and can have different marketing names like "shopping".....

The light is on but the freezer is not cooling

You did not specify which lights are on?

  • The green pilot light will illuminate to show that the appliance is switched on.
  • The red alarm light will also illuminate until the freezer
    reaches the correct temperature.
  • If you press the SUPER button than you start fast freeze function and yellow light will illuminate.
I assume that the freezer is on and the green light is illuminated. This means that the freezer is on and energized.
Also, if freezer does not cooling, means that did not achieve the set temperature should be illuminated the red light (alarm).

Set the thermostat for example in position 4th and after that compressor should be start.
If compressor running but not cooling, defective is the system which circulates gas.
If compressor does not start, then is faulty thermostat, compressor or the wiring.

Does the green light come on after freezer is turned back on?

if you turn the freezer off for some time then on again the red light has to come on as an indicator for high temperature it goes off by itself when the freezer attains the required temperature according to the thermostat settings ,that is the lower the settings the faster the red light goes off. the orange light indicates super cooling and the green light indicates power supply.if you turn the two lights off and the freezer still works without the green light on that means that the bulb for the green light is faulty and you don,t need to worry

Philips Freezer

I used to sell freezers.the green light tells you the mains is on and the freezer should work. The red light is to inform you the freezer is not low enough temperature, and the orange light is a fast freeze light to over ride the thermostat for use when introducing fresh food.It should not be used for prolonged periods as it may burn out the compressor although in your case you already have a problem and should seek advice or buy another freezer. If you get a cheap freezer thermometer it should confirm what I am saying.
