Trying to replace the water filter on my fridge/freezer put it in vertical and tried to turn to the horizontal position to lock in place wont turn and don't want to use excessive force any advise plz
Amanda,
I have had to use pliers before in putting those in. Just be careful that you try not to force beyond the horizontal. Also, try pushing in while turning, sometimes that helps.

please remember to open any valves that you might have closed in order to stop water flow to the fridge/freezer. This should be the only thing stopping water flow even the old column does not lead to current water flow into your freezer.
Check to see if there is a spring loaded locking pin that locks the saw in place when it is turned from horizontal to vertical .
Most saws have these & may need a bit of force to pull back up if not used often.
First, I'm not a Frigidaire representative.
*Check your warranty. You should call vendor for service.
* Note; Check as refrigerators usually have long warranty.
*** The following is for information only.**
* First check if the water faucet (valve) is turned on.
* first check if you have water from the water dispencer. No? then there is a clog. (note; older GE fridge) ; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjShdHoiiJw
* He suggest checking filter then the water solenoid. (requires getting into the guts of box. (may void warranty.)
* Check if the filter is seated and locked. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9x4Q_k9czzU
* Change filter (if stuck); https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeWmjDO-kZI
* Water okay? Then check Ice maker; Perform "Harvest Test"; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQQHNHHM4QE
* Not "Harvesting"? (not running) ; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQQHNHHM4QE
* Another "Replacement" of ice maker; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0kh3RVcNZo
* Good example of "freeze up"; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KsV-Zno92Fk
*** For older models:
* I've had this problem a lot with my old fridge. Water line works but no ice.
* Check if the "Ice Full" leaver is in the down (no ice) position. Some ice makers will lock the leaver (a stiff wire) in the full position to manually shut off ice maker. Make sure it swings up and down when ice tray is empty.
* Sometimes when the tray is left full of ice for a week or more then the tube feeding water will freeze up. Defrosting the freezer on a regular basis will help. A quick fix is to pour warm water in the ice maker section (where the ice is formed). This will help melt the clogged pipe and also make some ice while your waiting. You may have to do this several times. But at least you have ice.
* This (freezing up) may also be caused by the freezer set too cold. The temperature dial should be in the middle. But turning it colder and colder over time will cause ice to build up and prevent foods from freezing properly (thus turning the dial down colder.) Once your maxed out on the dial. You will find the freezer gets warm and things get covered in frost crystals.
* Transfer food to another refrigerator and perform a complete defrost by leaving it unplugged and the door open (freezer section).
* Frequently check and dump water at bottom of fridge. Clean the dust on coils while down there.
* A fan blowing into the freezer section helps. (Do NOT use a heated fan as it will warp the plastic and over pressure the refrigerate.)
* Once defrosted (+4 hours). Power up the freezer and set the temperature dial to mid point and the freezer diverter to middle or normal setting. Don't put the food back in yet. Wait till the freezer gets down to normal freeze temp (about 0 to 10F)
* Move freezer back in place (if you moved it to access plug) then slowly put back the food. Try not to cram stuff in. Leave space for air to flow freely around items.
* Final, Call for service anyway and have them perform yearly service. Check your warranty.

When we transport a fridge we try to keep it always at a verical position and if this is not posible and need to be horizontal then after we put in place we have to leave it for 12 hour relax before we switch it on so the compressor oil will balace on the bottom and thus full lubricate the compressor motor parts.
Now There is another option that during transport have created a leak which this is the worst case.
So can please describe the timing of the transport , how long it stay relax after the transposrt and how long you have it on now and what temperatures you have in freezer and fridge. Also the also the model of the fridge
insert it so it is vertical and then rotate one quarter turn to the right so it is now horizontal nad the line matches the grill on the front of the fridge.
Bought the filter replacement and read the instructions. Turn off ice maker and replace filter. Remove by turning 1/4 turn to the right. pull out old filter. Remove cover, slide off, replace cover by sliding on the new filter. Push new filter in to the holding, hold so cover is horizontal, push in and turn back clockwise till the cover is horizontal to the floor.
Your refrigerator definitely has a water filter. If you have gone 5 years without replacing the filter, you and your family have probably been drinking contaminated water, for some time. Water filters should be replaced every three to six months. On some refrigerators, and in cases of higher water consumption, the filter must be changed every 60 days. Sears sells replacement filter cartridges for Kenmore refrigerators.
The water filter on your refrigerator is located at the front base of the unit, in the grille, below the freezer door. There, you will see a round cap. Turn the cap counter-clockwise, until the handle is vertical. Then, pull it out of the grille. The filter cartridge is attached to the cap. After removing the cap and filter, slide the cap off from the existing filter cartridge. Slide the cap on to a new cartridge, and re-insert with the cap handle in a vertical position. Push it in, firmly. Then, turn the cap clockwise, until the cap handle is horizontal.
