This is normal. The adapter will only allow ''charging.'' The new Apple product is not compatible with older (non genuine Apple) docks and accessories. And even with ''genuine'' Apple, older units may not work with an adapter. With genuine older Apple products you can check with Apple what will work with an adapter.
Ps... Even the _adapter_ needs to be ''genuine'' Apple. Most of the time, ''charging'' is all you will get from generic adapters.
Testimonial: "Thanks for that Gregg? Would a new dock for latest I phon/ I pad work? Or is there a way of bypassing old dock, perhaps!!!! I've had a hell of a time getting info on my 1015, either not many out there or they are that good they seldom go wrong lol Cheers Alan"
Sorry for long delay, Alan. I haven't been here in a while. The easiest way to play an Apple product with any ''auxiliary'' unit (i.e ''other player), is to place an ordinary stereo cord into the ''earphone'' of the Apple product, and the other end into the auxiliary unit (where there it says ''AUX''). Usually, you will have to either have a cord that has the correct size on both ends, or have an ''adapter'' for the correct size that goes into the other unit. (Hoping this makes sense to you). - Smiles, -Gregg
