2012 bolens, 38 in deck, 13.5 hp, non-hydrostatic transmission. events up to this point, parking brake would not hold on any ground, flat or a grade
SOURCE: 2003 S10 parking brake pedal won't stay to floor
My '03 S10 with manual transmission had the parking mechanism fail. I could push the parking brake pedal to the floor and it would not lock in place. To take out this mechanism, pull the plastic sidewall off next to the parking pedal, then unscrew the plastic panel underneath the dash, which is above the gas and brake pedals. The front plastic panel can remain in place. The parking mechanism is held to the sidewall by two lower hex head screws (easy to take out) and one above the pedal arm (this takes patience to remove). Feel around for this upper nut - it's there. I used a small extension on my ratchet with a deep wall socket. The upper nut is attached to a stud and this will align the parking mechanism when putting it back on. Once the mechanism is out, take off the parking and brake release cables, the parking brake wire connection, and you're free to see if it can be repaired. The mechanism on my S10 had one end of the spring off to the side, and once put back into place, the repair was made. Good luck!
Check and clean Idle air control valve. Make sure its responding to signal as well. Also make sure ther are no vacuum hoses disconnected. This may not be a "cure" but it's a good place to start.

Sounds like its slipping..
Have you checked the hydro fluid ?
Are there any leaks ?
Could be an adjustment in the pedal..
Look at all the pedal linkage and you might find some adjustment there..
Or - maybe a moving part is waring out in the linkage..
Hope this helps !!
rate me good ;o)
SOURCE: I own a Snapper riding mower, hydrostat drive,
could be a linkage came loose, or that the fluid level in trans is low, has nothing to do with engine but the hydros are prone to failure, also the hydro is driven by a vbelt which can stretch and mimic a trans problem

Hi daniel burleson, I want to help you with your question, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box? Need Make/Model/Year/Engine Model/Transmission Model/Deck Size, and hours on meter if you have one. If you haven’t already done so, add a short description of the events preceding the beginning of the problem.
