It sounds like fan motor is okay. There are two motor windings -- one low speed, one medium speed. Low winding gives you low speed, medium winding gives you medium speed, both windings give you high speed -- so I would say if you get high speed, both windings are good.
The remote (the hand held transmitter) controls the speed by raising and lowering the frequency of the current which is 60 cycle coming to the fan ceiling box. If the fan speed -selector switch (usually a pull switch) is set to high, when the remote (transmitter) signals the receiver to change speeds, the frequency of the current is changed by the receiver (the receiver is usually in the fan housing).
Sounds like you'll need to replace the remote system -- these come in sets, both transmitter and receiver, and cost about $30. If you're not experienced with wiring fans, you should get an electrician to do the job.
I dont have a solution, but I have a similar problem with a Bonaire evap rooftop cooler which only started after a tech came to look at the unit when it stopped operating properly last summer. He said it uses less water now, but the issue is that it doesnt cool any where near as effectively with the fan speed so low. I am located in Melb Australia, and wonder if you are in the same area. I am going to call service AGAIN & get the minimum fan speed returned to what it was previously. I wonder if my original unit is too small for the house - but nevertheless, it used to work beautifully and now is a very poor example of evap cooling. The service guy said the base fan speed could be altered from the controller, but we dont know how to get into the setup menu.
Hello Allez Brive. A suggeston, remove the battiers and short out the battery contacts. insert new battiers with correct polarity and test operation. The age of your remote maybe the problem. Good luck.
Under the dome (where the electrical connections are) is the receiver unit for the fan. It could be that it is no longer working. Also the remote may have dip switches to change the frequency channel (sometimes located behind the batteries) check that these have not been changed or check they correspond to the receiver unit on the fan.
