I have an H/P laptop that won't start up. Is there a book on taking laptops apart?

I've been told the Mother Board is bad, and it needs a new Hard Drive. I don't know what's wrong. It comes on but that's it.

Many older HP laptops do have service manuals for them. Many are actually downloadable from the HP website, right alongside the users manuals. I will tell you from experience, however, the costs to repair older laptops is almost not worth the price when you can buy newer, faster ones for near the same cost.

My laptop has no signs of power. I was told a small chip on the mother board has burned out. Something to do with the power.

Sorry, but he's probably correct. You need to replace the whole motherboard.

You will never be able to find the chip to replace, let alone find someone qualified to correctly remove the bad chip and then replace it with a good one.

take it back and use the warranty or contact the manufacturer if you've been there 6 times then the seller should replace it.

Tech says i need new motherboard computer won´t turn on

Before you buy a new mother board, (the L300D-13S board is around $185 from China), remove your battery, leave it for about 5 minutes. Use only the Mains power supply and see if it will switch on.
Fit the battery, plug in the Mains Charger and see if the battery charge light comes on. If it does and it won't give you a screen or flash the hard drive light or power up the hard drive, then I am inclined to go along with a replacement Mother Board.
The laptop has to complete the POST and if it doesn't that usually points to Mother Board problems.
Were you trying to upload a newer version of the BIOS before it failed?
Good luck but check ebay and beware there are some really dodgy frauds out there.

I can't get my G550 to turn on. It has a charged battery, lights up, but won't engage the hard drive or anything else. I've sent it to the company for warranty repair three times. They replaced the mother...

Start taking your laptop apart piece by piece and test it after each removed component:
1. Remove the hard drive and test the laptop.
2. Remove the DVD drive and test the laptop.
3. Remove the wireless card and test the laptop.
4. Unplug the display panel from the motherboard/video card and test the laptop.
etc....
Continue taking it apart until you have only three major components connected: motherboard (with video card), processor, and memory. If you still experience the same problem, most likely it's bad motherboard.
By the way, before you start, try reconnecting the memory module. If you have two modules installed, try removing them one by one and test the laptop with each one separately

HP Pavillion dv2500 laptop won't turn on

Kinda strange. Not turning on indicates a hardware problem, you made software changes. If the software changes caused a problem, it would start, just not boot to windows. I would first tryy to reset the laptop. Unplug it and remove the battery, hold down the power button for 60 seconds, then try again. If still no go, start removing hardware one at a time, hard drive, rem, wireless card, dvd rom. You may have a bad hard drive. Your pc should boot to bios if there is no hard drive installed. If that happens, run a diagnostic on your hard drive from your bios. Let me know if you need anything else.
