What voltage is it? When you turn it on, what happens? If nothing, no sound, you need to start troubleshooting at the receptacle to see if you have power.

nope... throat on scroll saw is of fixed height... beside, all scrollsaw blades are of fixed length, i would suggest use of bandsaw with very narrow blade with minimal kerf. do not use pressure on the blade! you will then have same cut through the thickness of the wood! setup bandsaw correctly, do not overtension it - see my other instructables pertaining to the bandsaw and regulation/setup of it

I am not sure why you took the guides off in the first place, That is definitely related to the problem but is it possible that taking those guides off created a deeper problem?
