I have an Acer Aspire 5733z. When I turn it on or return from hybernation, it shuts down and automatically attempts to reboot. Sometimes it only takes a few tries, other times it has taken up to 30 minutes.

Unplug the computer, hold the power button down until the laptop shuts down, then remove the battery. Plug in the charger, and try powering up. If all is okay, shut it back down, unplug it, and reinstall the battery. Then, plug it in and let it fully charge. Restart it, plugged in and with the battery installed. Good luck.
Laptops (and PCs) have sensors to kill the power when overheating takes place, particularly the CPU. You should take it to a local repair shop and let them look at it for you
Overheating When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is the problem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail. A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are clogged with dust. Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan. If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed air to do this.
Unplug the power supply, remove the battery then press the power button 10x or more holding each press for about 10secs. Insert the battery, plug the power supply and turn it on. If it doesn't, repeat the steps. This should remove the static electricity stuck in the mainboard.
If it turns-on, set your laptop to hybernate when you close the lid so you don't need to shutdown it anymore. If it runs out of power while in hybernation, it should start again.
