It could be your bottom seal, oil filter loose, if it is equiped with an oil cooler it could be one of the lines, clamp, valve cover loose, blown gasket on either the valve cover, crank case..... There are several possibilities. It would be advisable to take it to local repair shop, dealer if under warranty. Always check your oil before starting,,, and if you know its leaking, check at intervals while using it, do not overfill...warning on dipstick.

SOURCE: Honda Self-Propelled Lawn Mower leaking oil?

It is toast you fried the crank/connecting rod, by running it low on oil.
Its hard to say what caused the oil leak, but now it is ruined.

SOURCE: Riding mower engine loud and smoking.

take it to a reputable shop and have them check it over - courage engines had a problem when they first came out - the bolts in the cover plate were not torqued properly and when they come loose, the torque of the engine turning will crack the block - this should be a warranty condition if the block is cracked - just make sure the shop is a kohler warranty station

SOURCE: oil leak comimg out of exhaust on a briggs

oil ends up in the muffler if you over fill the oil...re-check the level and adjust as necessary...after that, run it...you need to "burn" the oil residue out of the muffler..

Just replaced the hydraulic hoses on the left side. When I refilled the reservoir and put everything back together, the drive direction on the left side was reversed. Push forward, it goes backward.

The motors are identical and therefore mirrors. I believe the inside port of each pump connects to the rear port of each motor... or which ever... if all you did was change hoses on one side, you have the hoses reversed.

It burning a little oil is there anything I can do other then then replacing the rings?

Engines SHOULD use a little oil, otherwise the upper cylinder lubrication is inefficient. You could use an oil additive such as Wynns if it is smoking
