Dec 26, 2010 - 1993 is OBDI not OBDII. The connector is under the hood, near the left hood hinge.

There appears to be no strip down or servicing information. You just replace then at $700 a go!

I was thinking there is probably a shear pin between the exhaust fan and the intake fan. Nothing on my theory.

Make sure that the connectors pins are tight. Also could have a bad power connection.

the ALDL that is in the picture is and OBD2 connector. some cars at this year had gone to OBD2 and some had this connector installed but still used OBD1 connector for codes and data stream. if you have found both then try both.

The OBD2 port is usually 'within an arm's reach' of the steering wheel.

on a 99 2.0 model you will have 2 diagnostic ports. both of them will be the fiat 3 pin type.

to connect the 3 pin fiat connector to a 16 pin obd2 connector you need 4 lengths of wire. use 3 lengths of wire to connect the 3 pin connector to the obd connector. also use 1 length of wire for power to the obd connector.

on the 16 pin obd2 connector use the following pins
4- chassis ground (connect to ground on 3 pin connector, or any good chassis earth)
5- signal ground (connect to black wire pin on 3 pin connector)
7- k line (connect to white wire pin on 3 pin connector)
16- 12vDC (connect to battery positive terminal)

Repair Shop that knows how to resolve that issue

Try another scan tool on this vehicle to confirm that it is a problem with the port. Then have a technician comfirm that the computer isn't at fault before replacing the port connector.
