your neighbour is probably right. fan should work but if the element has disintegrated, bits of the element could be jamming the fan. take the rear panel off inside the oven and check

SOURCE: Loose Oven door handle

Hi,
You may have to get some loctite brand paste in a tube for applying to the threads of the bolts that hold it on.
This will prevent the screws from loosening.
Another way would be to get some spring washers or star washers at your local hardware store such as menards.

Their will be two elements in the oven a bottom element and a fan element, sounds like the latter has blown!

Are fan forced ovens meant to have hot air coming out from the top of the door? I have a built in chef fan forced wall oven

Unlikely there would be no air spilling through the door seal because it is an oven and not a watertight compartment. An oven door seal needs to be hard wearing and able to withstand high temperatures and hot grease which limits the materials used, that and the fact few domestic oven doors actually latch these days but are held closed by springs meaning the pressure against the seal is relatively light which means the door, the shut and the seal must be manufactured to a high degree of accuracy and properly adjusted.

If the amount or air leakage is excessive perhaps the door could be adjusted or the seal replaced. Try asking around to find someone with a similar oven so you can compare...

Oven door won't close

if you look around under the handle or under the top of the stove on the front there should be thin lever. This lever is designed to lock the oven door closed tightly when you are activating the self cleaning oven feature. It is likely that someone accidentally lock the lever while the door to the oven was open. Simply find that locking lever return it to the unlocked position and your door should shut fine.

Omega oven model number is OO910XA

If it is a common problem with Omega, they may not be ready to admit it. Since it occured 2 times, possibly the hinges use nylon rollers for smooth and quiet operation, but the hinges are not well shielded from the hi heat of 500-600 degrees and the nylon parts fail after a few months constant heat exposure. There is a common problem that happens with oven doors when they do not seam to close tight: besides being old and normally worn, if a door is leaned on while it is open, the hinges could be stretched and then they will never allow the door to close tight. This has happened to many ovens regardless of age, and the customer never realized that the weight or pressure they applied to the door when in the open position has done damage; yet they wunder why the door does not close well. Oven door won't stay tightly shut

Oven door hinges are not adjustable, assuming you have fitted the door back correctly, and it is still not closing properly, then the only solution is to replace the door hinges.

Replaced hinge on smeg double oven but now oven doesn't heat

I have the SMEG F170-5 and had this problem after cleaning and replacing the door. It wouldn't heat unless I banged it shut. This action made the internal switch trigger, so I had to remove the oven (4 screws, slide out) and remove the right side panel (4 screws). The switch is actuated by the right hinge strut and it must have become bent slightly. I bent it a bit towards the door so that it would just a little bit more likely to make the switch trigger with the door closed and it now works fine.
