Why do i hear a fan noise when i turn on my samsung dlp4663wx/xaa?

Have you had a issue where you heard a high pitched whine or fan like sound?

Examine the color wheel- can be done with lamp removed--look in the opening the lamp faces---is wheel intact or missing any pieces?

The set will turn lamp on for a instant and then off if it detects wheel not moving at full speed or not at all.

A fan like noise is 98% of the time the color wheel.

Wheel turns at over 12,000 rpm and common failure is "fan like sound or even grinding sound".

When these sets first came out if the high pitched sound started women who have better hearing in that range usually hear it first.

If wheel really fails it will shatter and set will not come on----a grinding sound may be noticed just before total failure.

most likely the fan like or high pitched sound is the color wheel which is very common in this model;

if it goes totally bad the set will shut down (wheel can shatter inside).

My experience tells me women (who have better high end hearing range} usually notice or hear it first.

If you do not hear the color wheel start to spin inside of light engine this may have failed also check to make sure fans are working and safety switch is making contact

Hi, bearings in color wheel are about to fail, get it fixed now before the wheel shatters the prisms all over the inside of the tv which of course will then cost you more to fix, video-tek

that's from a thermal switch, to keep the innards cool, post use. Seems to me that you might just check to see that all vents are open and clear of debris, for starters.
