I have a 'top spec' Dell XPS 15 (L521x). I've only had it for a year and it's had it's screen changed, motherboard, touch pad and ssd all break and need replacing... At first after a few weeks of owning it the screen went black, but I could operate everything through an external monitor via a hdmi cable. So a dell engineer came out and changed the screen, but it still didn't work. The next day another came out who replaced the screen again along with the motherboard, still wouldn't work oh and he snapped the base of my laptop... Next day I requested a different engineer who again changed the motherboard and tested a new screen, still it wouldn't work, he then came back with a new ssd hoping it would solve the problem as well as a new base. This fixed my problem but now the touch pad stopped working... This then got replaced and all seemed to be working fine until the other day when the screens backlight went off. Now a new engineer has come out and replaced my screen, and now nothing is coming up on the screen... They are bringing me a new motherboard tomorrow to hopefully fix it! This is worrying me that it's going to be a regular thing now, any suggestions?

I have a 'top of the range' Dell XPS 15 (L521x) which I have owned for only a year and it's screen has died again.

from what i have just read as far as dell reviews, this is the norm ,i also have had friends tell me of problem like yours, and what they had to end up doing, my suggestion since dell has a bad rap with all of their products is go to another brand, asus is good, hp also, make sure if you can to take all your important data and back it up to cd or dvd disk so you can put in new laptop

How to remove keyboard on dell xps L521X

Here's the repair manual which includes instructions on removing and replacing the keyboard. Grab a t5 screwdriver (or bit for your drill) from the hardware store if you don't have one. You'll need it to get into the back panel. Good luck!

Dell XPS15 L521x remove lcd screen

Here's the repair manual for your laptop, including instructions for removing the screen.

You'll need a T5 screwdriver for most of the bottom screws. When I did this project Ace Hardware had the screwdriver bit for my drill for less than two dollars. Good luck!

Dell xps m1330 vista home curser jumps when typing

Have you loaded your touchpad drivers? The only time I've ever seen than happen is when the touchpad drivers aren't loaded. The touch is extra sensitive if your palm(s) just barely touch the pad.

By loading the touchpad drivers, you should be all set

Which is best to buy? dell inspiron or studio?

Studio 15 vs XPS M1530

We specced a Studio 15 for $1457 on the Dell site (the official starting price is currently $1,149), to get it closer on paper to Dell's XPS M1530. We also specced an entry level XPS M1530 for $1798.

We're not entirely convinced the $300 step up to the XPS M1530 is a must.

Major differences are processor and graphics. On our Studio 15 we have Intel's Core 2 Duo P8400, vs the T8300 on the XPS M1530. The P8400 has a lower clock speed at 2.26GHz chip vs 2.4GHz for the T8300, and has 3MB cache (same as the XPS). On the other hand, the P8400 is a 25watt chip, vs 35W for the T series, so in theory it's more battery efficient.

The Studio 15 is also on the new Centrino 2 platform, and has a 1066MHz FSB, vs 800MHz for the XPs.

The other major difference is graphics. The entry level Studio 15 gives you the choice of either Intel's integrated graphics (4500MHD), the better choice for battery life, or 256MB Ati Mobility Radeon HD 3450. The XPS eschews integrated graphics in favour of 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT.

Both notebooks come with internal DVD combo drives, though there is a Blu-Ray option on the entry level XPS. The XPS also has an integrated mobile broadband option, which wasn't mentioned on our Studio 15.

The Studio 15's Centrino 2 platform and solid spec stack up well against the entry level XPS M1530. It seems the XPS' advantages here are mostly in terms of its sleeker design, and slightly lighter weight (2.62Kg vs 2.77Kg for the Studio 15).

Studio 15 vs Inspiron 1525
We also configured a top end Inspiron 1525 for comparison. Our spec included Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 (same as the XPS), the same 1440x900 scren as the XPS, 3GB RAM (same as Studio 15), and 320GB HDD (same as Studio 15). Bluetooth and wireless n were add-on modules, and there was no dedicated graphics option, only Intel's older generation X3100.

With the older Centrino platform, older graphics, and without the LED screen, our Inspiron 1525 spec came to $1527 - actually more than the Studio 15.

In this comparison, the Studio 15 stacks up as the better buy, and it's also solid value against the more expensive XPS. If you're looking for a solid mid-range laptop, we recommend you place the Studio 15 on your shopping list.

I hope this helps to make your choice.

Xps 1530 touch pad scroll vertical horizental does not work on

What you need to do is install all the software that is included with the Dell XPS drivers and utilities cd. You also have a software there that is for your touchpad. What you need there is either the quickset or the synaptic itouch software. If you could not find it from the disk.. go to support.dell.com and download the drivers and utilities from there.
