SOURCE: GE Central A/C Unit about 30 yrs old; condenser fan stops after a short time.
I gather that it is the outdoor fan motor that runs a bit then stops.
Fan motors that stop by themselves are overheating and going into self-protect. The fact that you replaced the motor and capacitor opens up a whole world of "which wire is in the wrong place". I could do this if I could see it, but I can't see it. You're probably going to wind up calling a service man to sort out the wiring.

These motors start with the capacitor, that could be the problem in most of the cases ,but sometimes even if the capacitor is new they don't start or after a while they stop by overload.First try replacing the capacitor(no more than $10) and keep an eye on it beacause if this fan at the condensing unit doesn't work it could damage the compresor.

If you are talking about the indoor fan it is probably a bad capacitor. Replace the fan motor capacitor. And YES, if the fan motor needs replacing too, you can DO-IT-YOURSELF.

This is a very common problem, especially if there was a recent power fluxuation. Your fan Capacitor is bad. the Capacitor gives the fan the needed power "boost" or torque to get it turning. your troubleshooting skills have already determined that the fan will work if given a :boost". The part will be less then $10.00 dollars. Call an a/c/ company and they should not charge you over $75.00
capacitors are rated by "uf" or micro farrads. yours will be 5 or 10.
