Been trying for the last day and a half to log into my yahoo account of almost 33 years, when I go to login I make sure everything is correct, even told my little black book with all the passcodes and sites to make sure I am correct. when I hit the Sign In button . the only thing that happens is the keyboard pops back up. every time. send it only happens with yahoo account...

It means somebody is trying to access to your account & made few failed attempts. But no worries, it's a normal security precaution which will eventually locked the account to prevent the unauthorized user from getting in successfully. This lock down usually will last 24hours after the failed attempts made by the unauthorized user.
Go to this main Yahoo! logging site & insert the correct ID & password of your account. The first attempt may prove failure, second attempts will lead you to the "word verification system" which is to make sure that you are not "bots". Follow all those procedures provided by Yahoo!. 48hours after visiting that Yahoo! main logging site, your account should return as normal. Link : http://login.yahoo.com/config/login

**NOTE: Remember to clear out your ID every time signing out of any sites that preserve your personal informations such as Facebook, Yahoo! Messenger @ Mail & etc. to prevent them from being hack or so.

had the same problem starting Aug 11, 2010 - mid day. It is strange. I've reported it to yahoo, and they are taking a long time. I've had my account for more than 10 years. It is something on yahoo's end for sure. I haven't tried using a mobile device, but logging in to yahoo from any computer gives me the same error. I've tried Firefax and IE on different computers. Good luck. If you find a solution please post back.

First try to see that your password is correct or not. Log into mail.yahoo.com and if you
are able to login website. Then try terminating yahoo from task manager ( do ctrl+alt+del to
open task manager). Go to processes tab on task manager and search for YahooMessenger.exe,
right click and click on end process. Start yahoo messenger again and try logging in again.

If this doesnt work, you can try uninstalling and installing the yahoo again. But after
unstallation make sure to remove all the remain of files related to yahoo.
Download the yahoo messenger 10 and install a fresh one

I faced the same problem today. After brain storming and my experience I found a way back to my mail. You need to install yahoo messenger and try login, might take a couple of times. If log in is successful it will show you a message " ___ new mails" click on that and you are in.
To check whether your Account name has been taken or not, just click on Sign up at yahoo and put your account name in and check for the availability. It should show this account is not available.
Alternatively you can visit "meebo.com" and you can try login there, but you can not access your emails there, though you can chat with your friends even in your university.

check whether any firewall or antivirus is blocking yahoo mail or email clients.....

Just make sure that you enter the correct username and password. And make sure that the internet connectivity is working properly.

If you still, cannot open, try to sign up for a new one.

that's strange, they usually reply within a day or 2
if you're using firefox 3, yahoo mail and firefox 3 have issues so they can't be together, use an alternative browser called crazybrowser or maxthon to login into yahoo mail.
