??? what does a power supply failure on a tv look like ???
none of the buttons light up , nothing lights up no bars or stripes on screen , nothing !! cord is plugged into a power outlet and is on , but nothing no lights no sound (sometimes a high pitch squeal is heard )
The audio jacks on the DVD player get connected to the audio IN RCA jacks on the TV The audio out jack on the TV is for a sound bar or amplified speakers.
Before you buy a sound bar look on the back of your TV to see if there is a digital port and /or a fiber optic port. The fiber port may have a cover on it so the red laser won't cause eye damage. If your TV is so equipped, then get a sound bar with a fiber optic connection. Not many older TV's , flat screen or nor have blue tooth capability. Unless you know for sure your TV does, don't expect the sound bar to have it too.
The two brands should be compatible, and plugging the sound bar in should not affect the picture...either the tv chose that particular moment to go bad, or you plugged the soundbar into the wrong place...look for "audio out" connectors on the tv (should be RCA connectors)...
