When I use either the ac or the heat , I lose power. The van completely dies. No other trouble. Only when ac/heat on
Sounds like the system is pulling too much power! First check the charging system and battery! With the key off, your battery should be at 12 volts or better! When you start the van, check for 13 1/2 to 14 volt charge at the battery! If that checks out good, next you want to plug in an OBD2 code reader under the dash on the driver's side, and check for codes! If there are no codes, it could be the system itself having the problem!

have the fuel pump pressure checked and have the van scanned, my taurus had the same problem replaced the fuel pump that solved the problem hope this helps
SOURCE: loses power and dies
this is a tricky one. I would check the oil level and then the anti freeze. it sounds like the engine is over heating and the wrong oil will do that. but is can also be the anti freeze because their are little flow ports through out the engine and it can be that the ports in the engine are clogged with grim. if the ports are clogged then thiers no way for the engine to cool. and i do beleive that thier is a sensor in the engine that cuts the engine off when its is not recieving any anti freeze.

That most likely would be a fuel system problem. Other, less, likely would be transmission. Does the vehicle run OK at idle?
SOURCE: no electrical power going to anything in my van.
could be a fusable link in the wiring harnes near the battery box/check all links
SOURCE: my 95 windstar wont start after replacing battery, fuel pump +
YOU NEED TEST THE WIREING TO THE ALTERNATOR.IF IT CHECKS OUT HAVE THE ALTERNATER REPAIRED OR REPACED,THE VAN IS SHUTTING DOWN BECAUSE ALL THE SENSORS IN THE VAN ARE NOT GETTING THE POWER THEY NEAD
