I have a 90 hp yamaha outboard 2008 on a 20 ft pontoon runs smoothly but only goes 17 mph. From 3/4 throttle to wife open no change. It only shows 4000 rpms losing power some where and it's a 2 stroke....

Well by your description its most likely your prop. A wider pitch prop will give more torque but less top end. A smaller pitch will give more top end and higher speed but wont be pulling hard at lower rpm's. So depending what your use for the boat is, The prop will make all the difference in the world. Aloha

My depth finder loses its depth reading at about

You need to set the transducer lower. When at speed, the hull of the ship raises up out of the water and hence your transducer is probably not deep enough at these times to give a proper reading.

Is it a reconditioned lower unit?

What sort of oil did you put in the lower unit?

Sounds like there is some drag in the lower unit causing the engine to bog down. It will work fine on a stand in neautral however.

How does it go in reverse on the lake? Can you get full throttle?

Problem with interference lowrance x25fishfinder

Transducer will stop getting readings if it gets air under it. If it's lower surface is too much above or below the bottom of your boat, this can happen.
