My Salton Gas Heater has stood for a couple of months and now when I try to start it, it wont ignite. How can I fix it.

Please be careful when dealing with products using gas. Double check that the area around where ignition occurs does not have air blocked off as low oxygen would stop fire from occurring. You can also check fuel level of machine. Thank you.

Outagas or a clog..clean that area. smell anything

The capacitor in that unit is for starting the motor that drives the blower fan. It has no impact on the ignition of the gas burner. On the control board, there is a light that should be flashing, can you tell us how many times it is flashing?

turn gas supply on....turn gas valve to pilot....press down and hold to allow gas to come through pilot tubing.....light the pilot right by the thermal couple, once lit hold valve down for about 60-90 secs...then release ur hand on the gas valve and turn the valve to on position............make sure the bloody tstat is turned off before doin anything other wise burners will fire up soon as you turn valve to on position

How strong is the smell?
The smell is usually caused because the heater to turn on the flame has to emit a bit of gas first, and then a spark is made by the heater to make the flame burn, which in turn causes the rest of the flame in the heater to heat up the water.
If it is a constant smell, then I suggest you immediately turn off the heater and stop gas flow to the heater (should have a valve close by) and call the numbers that are shown on the unit. They will help you from there.

With these pool heaters, there are a couple things that you can check yourself before you call a pro for this problem. Try cycling the ignition sequence until all air is out of the gas line. Also, check your gas valve. If it is manfunctioning, it will need to be replaced.

There could a couple of problems. An easy and inexpensive thing to try is replacing the hose and regulator. If that doesn't help, the pilot jet may be clogged and you have to do some diassembly to get to the pilot jet and clean out the orifice. The last thing is that possibly the igniter is not creating a spark to light the heater.

Backfires may indicate that a valve is sticking open, so that you are not getting compression. I am assuming that no repairs or adjustments were done which might have messed up the timing of valves or ignition.

it is possible to light a pool heater with an ignition device,however it is not advisable.since your unit is calling for heat and the gas valve is opening,i suspect you have a faulty ignitor
