If your trimmer has been sitting up the blades may not be lubricated well enough. While it is off try using a screwdriver and Hammer to move one of the blades, then try again. If it behind to start moving, lubricated well while running. That worked for me on mine.
If the engine starts 'fine" then it has not seized.
Many, if not most, hedge trimmers are , for safety, equipped with a "CENTRIFUGAL CLUTCH" between the engine and the blade to prevent blade operation unless the engine is at full RPM.
IF your machine is so equipped, it's possible that the clutch is worn and slipping so badly that the blade can't move.
Without direct exposure to this model, check the parts catalog, there is more than likely some type of coupler between the engine and blade assembly. Usually they are added for exactly this situation. Worse case senerio, the gearbox for the blades is "toast".
Had the same problem: when I turn on the trimmer, the motor would hum but the blades won't move. What I did: 1. Sprayed a ton of wd40 between the blades 2. Took a screwdriver and kinda wedged it between the blades to get them unstuck. Also removed some guck between the blades. And it worked!
It is pretty common for the trimmer to get jammed up with hair particles and skin oils which can prevent the blade from moving.
Try running the blades of the trimmer in a shallow dish of rubbing alcohol. Then clean the blades vigorously with an old toothbrush or similar. If the blades still does not move try using the tip of a small flat screwdriver or similar object to push and advance the moveable blade. Repeat running in alcohol and brush clean
If this doesnt work, you will probably need a new trimmer
Remove the cutting attachment, insert a screwdriver in to the shaft receptor and it should operate smooth with a slight bit of friction. if not then check the blade bolts and make sure the blades move freely. Lubricate the blades and the gearbox regularly. If the attachment end is good then turn the driveshaft by hand (with attachment still off shaft). If this too moves freely then go to the clutch.
